James Happel Sr.

James K. Happel Sr. VIRGINIA BEACH - James Kenneth Happel Sr., 67, passed away Oct. 15, 2010. A native of Whitesville, N.C., he was the son of the late Alice and Kenneth O. Happel Sr. He retired from Norfolk Southern Railway after 40 years of service as general yardmaster. Jim loved his life and loved his home, and most of all his daily phone calls from his son James. He is survived by his wife, Judi Doss Happel; his son, James Kenneth Happel Jr. and wife Tina; his daughter, Melinda Happel; his grandson, Jake Banton; his sister, Betty Jean Pomfrey; brothers, Kenny and wife Helen and Ronald and wife Sandra; and his beloved shih tzu, "Bo." The family will receive friends in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel, today from 6 to 7:30 p.m. with a memorial service beginning at 7 p.m. with Pastor Vinny Losciale officiating.
