Thelma Nidel Obituary

Thelma Ann Nidel NORFOLK - Thelma Ann "Richie" Nidel of Norfolk ascended into eternal life Sunday Oct. 13, 2010 at home. She was surrounded by her loving family. Richie was born July 13, 1930 in Jamaica Plains, Mass. She was predeceased by her parents, James and Theresa Richardson; nine siblings and her loving husband, Joseph Nidel. She will be fondly remembered by her daughter, Jeannie Steele and husband Joseph; son, David Carpenter; grandchildren, Andrea Fox and husband Timothy, Brett Slaughter, Dustyn Carpenter, Samantha White, Daniel Carpenter, Benjamin Steele and Dylan Carpenter; great- grandchildren, who lovingly knew her as GiGi, Amber, Haley, Ian, Frankie, Sebastian, Dominic, Brooklyn, Cecilia, JR and Kierstan; as well as a host of cherished friends. She was best known for her uncanny Boston accent, her fighting spirit and bringing the sparkle to every holiday, which she adored celebrating with friends and family. Richie enjoyed tournament pool, darts and was an avid bingo player. She loved pottery, crochet, puzzles, nature and animals. Richie was a longtime member of the Ladies Auxiliary, American Legion Post 327 and VFW Post 3160. We will miss the sparkle in her smiling Irish eyes and how she taught us all to enjoy the journey. She savored life and surrounded herself with enjoyment and laughter. The family would like to thank all of her caregivers, the staff at Lydia Roper House and Medihome Hospice for their care and support. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, Oct. 20, in Forest Lawn Cemetery at 2 p.m. The Rev. Fr. Leo Manalo will officiate. A life celebration at the home of Andrea and Timothy Fox will follow immediately. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to the Richie Nidel Scholarship Fund SunTrust Bank. Arrangements made by Hollomon-Brown, Tidewater Drive Chapel.

I saw this writing and thought of your Mom ~ I hope it blesses you:

Death Is Nothing At All

Death is nothing at all. I have only slipped away into the next room. I am I, and you are you. Whatever we were to each other, that we still are. Call me by my old familiar name, speak to me in the easy way that you always used. Put no difference in your tone, wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow. Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes we enjoyed together. Play, smile, think of me, pray for me. Let my name be ever the household word that it always was, let it be spoken without effect, without the trace of a shadow on it.

Life means all that it ever meant. It is the same as it ever was; there is unbroken continuity. Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight? I am waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near, just round the corner.

All is well.
