Evelyn A. Schikevitz DANIA BEACH, Fla. - Evelyn Avner Schikevitz, 87, passed away Friday, Oct. 22, 2010 in Hollywood, Fla. Born Aug. 31, 1923 in Cleveland, Evelyn spent the majority of her life in Portsmouth. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 46 years, David Schikevitz. Evelyn is survived by her two children, Mindy Runge and husband Richard Goldenberg of Hollywood, Fla.; and Ron Schikevitz and wife Kathy of Overland Park, Kan.; five grandchildren, Chris, Brian, Tabitha, Abby and Mollie; and four great-grandchildren, Emma, Aiden, Samara and Reese. She was a kind and generous woman who devoted herself to her family and her Jewish community. For more than 15 years, she worked side-by-side with her husband, David in the family business, David's Seaman and Marine Store at Pinner's Point in Portsmouth. She served for 13 years as the executive secretary at Gomley Chesed Synagogue Congregation. Evelyn enjoyed traveling throughout the world with David and friends and was an avid baseball fan cheering on her beloved Atlanta Braves each season. A graveside funeral will be held Tuesday, Oct. 26, at 11 a.m. at the Gomley Chesed cemetery, 3603 George Washington Hwy., Portsmouth. Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, is handling arrangements.
