Lillian Burton Obituary

Lillian Amelia Burton CHESAPEAKE - Lillian Amelia Burton, 95, of Chris Lane, Summerville, S.C., passed away Nov. 6, 2010 in Life Care Center of Charleston, Charleston, S.C. Born June 11, 1915 in Norfolk, the daughter of the late Joseph Thomas and Lillian Capps Buck, she was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, James V. Burton Sr. and son, James V. Burton Jr. She was retired from Oscar Smith High School, where she was the art teacher from 1961-1977. She was a member of Chesapeake Avenue United Methodist Church and the Daughters of the American Revolution. Survivors include a daughter, Jane Burton Cook of Cherokee, Ala.; a granddaughter, Mary Kathleen Cook; a grandson, Mark Vandegrift Cook, both of Summerville, S.C.; and three grandchildren. The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 11, at the Great Bridge Chapel of Oman Funeral Home & Crematory, 653 Cedar Road, Chesapeake. The Rev. Carroll Carter will officiate. The interment will follow in Rosewood Memorial Park. The viewing will begin Thursday with the family receiving friends from 1 to 2 p.m., prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Friends are also invited to send condolences and sign the online guestbook at www.omanfh.com.

RUSSELL TAYLOR CLASS 71, WHAT A WOUNDERFUL LADY. I REMEMBER HER FAVORITE SONG AT THE TIME WAS A RAINEY NIGHT IN GEORGIA. THANKS AMELIA FOR YOUR LOVE OF ART AND TEACHING. I STILL HAVE MY PICTURES YOU HELPED ME WITH. GOD BLESS AND R.I.P.

May God bless and watch over our family and fill our sorrowed hearts full of wonderful memories of times gone by. My grandmother and my daughters' great grandmother was a wonderful person and will be missed dearly by everyone she knew.
