Norris Brown Obituary

Norris W. Brown Sr. PORTSMOUTH - Norris Wellington Brown Sr. passed Nov. 20, 2010. He was born Jan. 27, 1925 in Charles City County, Virginia. Norris was a founding member of Fellowship United Church of Christ in Chesapeake, a Navy veteran and retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard as a planner and estimator. Norris leaves to cherish his memory three children, Sherrie B. Parker (Melvin) of Chesapeake, Betty Lynette Moore of Bear, Del., and Norris W. Brown Jr. (Sharon) of Portsmouth; his sister, Mae Brown Reid of Sarasota, Fla.; eight grandchildren, Delanissa A. Moody, Angela D. Moody, Elliott O. Moody, Natasha Parker, Christopher A. Moore (Patty), Norris A. Brown, Phillip W. Brown and Matthew B. Brown; and great-granddaughter, Katelyn A. Moore; a special niece, Shirley Green; and sister-in-law, Mary Brown. He was predeceased by his wife, Betty M. Brown; grandson, Kevin M. Moore; five brothers and two sisters. A viewing will be held Wednesday, Nov. 24, from 4 until 7 p.m. in J. T. Fisher Funeral Services, 1080 N. George Washington Hwy., Chesapeake. The life celebration service will be held Friday, Nov. 26, at 11 a.m. in Fellowship UCC, 1402 Gust Lane, Chesapeake. The family is receiving guests at the home of Norris Jr., 1916 Evergreen Place, Portsmouth. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to be made to Fellowship UCC Capital Campaign Fund. Sherrie, Lynette, and Skipper-----words cannot express the sorrow that I have for you all right now. You're father was funny and sweet. I'll never forget how devoted he was to your wonderful mother in her last days. I would go visit her at Portsmouth General on my lunch hour from Portsmouth DSS and he would invaribly be there by her side. There is no doubt in my mind whatsoever that he is with God, and those who loved him here on earth. Be consoled knowing that.
