Coley Copeland Obituary

Coley Copeland Jr. SUFFOLK - Coley Copeland Jr., 70, of the 800 block of West Constance Road died Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2010 at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. He was a native of Nansemond County and the son of the late Coley Copeland Sr. and Alice Croker Copeland. He was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Rodgers Copeland; two sisters, Mary Francis Taliaferro and Dorothy Godwin; and two brothers, Wilbert Croker and Thomas J. Newby. He retired from Planters Peanut Company. He was a member of Healing Chapel Baptist Church and he was a Deacon Emeritus, in the Male Chorus, Men's Fellowship, Sunday school, Vacation Bible School and Boy Scouts of America. He leaves to cherish his memory: three daughters, Shirley A. Whitfield, Sonya A. Copeland, Tina L. Copeland all of Suffolk; one stepdaughter, Alice B. Rodgers Demps of Portsmouth; four sons, Coley Copeland III of Newport News, Leroy C. Copeland of Williamsburg, Benjamin D. Copeland of Suffolk and Randy P. Copeland of Virginia Beach; 19 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Florine Copeland-Mason of Philadelphia, Eunice Wiggins and Florence Robinson, both of Suffolk; an aunt, Mattie Copeland Robinson; devoted friend, Vivian Hite; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A funeral will be held at noon Monday, Dec. 6, at Healing Chapel Baptist Church, 2375 Godwin Blvd., Suffolk officiated by Pastor Morris L. Allmond Sr. Interment will be in Christian Home Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at 2802 East Washington St., Suffolk. Crocker Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
