Carroll Sheriff Obituary

Carroll W. Sheriff EDENTON - Carroll Whichard Sheriff, 98, of Edenton House, died there Friday, Jan. 7, 2011. Mrs. Sheriff was born in Norfolk and was the daughter of the late Walter and Pattie Carroll Whichard. A homemaker, she had worked as a newspaper editor and as a social worker, was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Norfolk and had been active in the East Bay Art League while living in California. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Elliot MacSwain and L.W. Sheriff. Surviving are a son, Travis MacSwain of Santa Fe, N.M.; a grandson, Dr. Robert Carroll MacSwain of Sewanee, Tenn.; her second-cousins, Gail LeMarie and Carroll Fromherz of New Orleans, La.; and her special friend, Joyce Jones of Edenton. No services are planned at this time. Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, assisted the family with arrangements.
