Shirlee Galanty
of Binghamton
Shirlee Galanty, of 5 Riverside Drive, passed away peacefully at Lourdes Hospital on Monday, March 24, 2008. She was predeceased by her husband of 66 years, Samuel; her brother, Dr. Emanuel J. Steinberg; and her sister, Anna David. She is survived by her children, Paul Galanty, Florham Park, N.J., and Madeline and Gary Miller, Vestal; her grandchildren, Elise and Frank Beams, Slingerlands, N.Y., Scott Miller, Binghamton, and Shari Miller, Vestal; her great-grandchildren, Alexander Beams and Aaron Beams, Slingerlands; her brother, Jack Steinway, Pembroke Pines, Fla. Shirlee was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Samuel and Sali Steinberg. For many years, she was an administrative assistant at Long Island Jewish/Hillside Medical Center before retiring with Sam to Florida in 1976. In 2001, Sam and Shirlee moved to Binghamton to be with their family. Shirlee will be remembered for her outgoing personality, her storytelling, and her wonderful culinary skills. We will deeply miss her, but her legacy lives on in our hearts.
Funeral services will be held 12:00 noon, Tuesday, March 25, 2008, at Beth David Synagogue, 39 Riverside Drive, Binghamton, with Rabbi Zev Silber officiating. Interment will follow services in Beth David/Temple Israel Cemetery, Conklin. Shiva will be observed at the Miller home on Tuesday 7 – 9 p.m., Wednesday and Thursday 1 – 4 p.m. and 7 – 9 p.m., Friday 1 – 4 p.m., and Sunday 1 – 4 p.m. and 7 – 9 p.m. Expressions of sympathy for the family may be forwarded to [email protected]. Arrangements for the family are directed by the DeMunn Funeral Home.
