Lindsey
of Endicott
Julia M. (Materese) Lindsey, 65, of Endicott, died peacefully on Thursday, July 10, 2008, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was predeceased by her parents, Frank (Grace Galli) Materese; one brother, Nicholas Materese; one sister, JoAnne Bongiorno; in-laws, Albert (Kathryn) Lindsey. She is survived by her best friend and husband of 42 years, Gary Lindsey; children, Michelle (John) Karedes, Joseph Lindsey; three grandchildren, Danielle Colella, Jake and Drew Karedes; one sister and brother-in-law, Louise (Richard) Wasyln; brothers-in-law, Sam Bongiorno, David (Regina) Lindsey; many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles; and also her lifelong friends, Ralph (Margaret) Serino, Gordon (Jereane) Williams. She was a former bank officer at Endicott Trust and office manager at Culligan Water. She was a charter member and past president of West Corners Lioness Club, a graduate of Union-Endicott Schools, and member of St. Anthony of Padua Church.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, July 14, 2008, at 10 a.m. from St. Anthony of Padua Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. The family will receive friends at St. Anthony of Padua Church on Sunday, July 13, 2008, from 4-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in her memory may be made to West Corners Lioness Club, c/o Shirley Morgus, 72 Hardy Road, Johnson City, New York 13790. Arrangements are by James Shara with Nichols Funeral Home, Whitney Point, New York.

Dear Gary, Michelle, & Joe,
I shared an office with Joe for a long time, and it was always a highlight when "Ma" called. The teasing banter between the two always made me smile, because I know very few people who can call their mom a friend. You were lucky to have someone like Julia in your life, who loved you beyond words, and ingrained in you the true meaning of family. She was gracious enough to share her ricotta cookie recipe with me, and it is now a favorite for my family. It was hard for this old southern broad to learn to say ricotta correctly, but it was worth it.
As before, my prayers are still with you.
