Darryl MacFall Obituary

Darryl Ridgeway MacFall
of Vestal
Darryl Ridgeway MacFall, beloved husband of Mary Burgess, passed away unexpectedly July 13, 2008 at Wilson Hospital after a long and courageous battle with leukemia. He was predeceased by his parents, Harold and Alfrieda (Whipple) MacFall. He is survived by his wife, Mary Burgess; his daughter, Tina Regan, Baldwinsville, N.Y.; three grandsons, Michael, Christopher, and Vincent Regan, also of Baldwinsville; two brothers, Desmond (wife, Mary) MacFall, Charlotte, N.C., and David (wife, Debby) MacFall, Union Springs, N.Y. and Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; and a very beloved sister, Molly King, Cayuga, N.Y. and Haines City, Fla., who was the donor for his stem cell transplant at Memorial Sloan Kettering in March 2006. Darryl was born in Auburn, N.Y., and graduated from Auburn High School. He served in the U.S. Army, then opened a restaurant in Union Springs, N.Y., and later owned a bakery in Auburn, N.Y. He then worked as a machinist at American Locomotive (ALCO, now Bombardier) in Auburn, manufacturing diesel engines, retiring in 1994 after 28 years of service. He was a member of Auburn Masonic Lodge No. 124. A lifelong summer resident of northern Cayuga Lake, Darryl was a passionate boater. He had kept a boat at Hibiscus Harbor Marina in Union Springs, N.Y., for forty consecutive years. He is widely acknowledged as having been one of the most skillful pilots on the lake, mentoring many less experienced boaters through his involvement in Auburn Power Squadron (of District 6, United States Power Squadron), an organization teaching and promoting safe boating. He was a three-time Past Commander of Auburn Power Squadron and a Life Member of United States Power Squadron.
Visitation hours will be held Wednesday, July 16, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Ernest H. Parsons Funeral Home, 71 Main St., Binghamton. Additional calling hours will be held Saturday, July 19, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Langham Funeral Home, 75 E. Genesee St., Auburn, N.Y. Darryl was blessed to have a loving wife who was with him through such a trying time in his life, and a sister who unselfishly gave a part of herself so that he could live a little longer and enjoy the time he had left with his family and friends. A part of him is in the hearts of all of us in one way or another, whether wife, brother, sister, daughter, grandsons, or extended family and friends. We all have our fond memories of him and that is what he would want us to remember.

Uncle Darryl was a very sweet man whom I loved very much. Although I have not seen him in many years, he always seemed a quiet person but yet very funny. I will surely miss him. May God comfort his family and friends during this sad time.
