Patricia Vail Obituary

Patricia (Brown) Vail
of Scottsdale, Arizona
Patricia (Brown) Vail, 84, born in Honesdale, Pa., passed away July 11, 2008 in Scottsdale, Ariz. Pat was predeceased by her husband, Lee N. Vail; her parents, Kenneth W. and Anne Brown; and her bother, Kenneth Brown, Jr. She is survived by her four daughters and two sons-in-law, Susan Vail, Endicott, N.Y., Kristin and Eugene Cavaliere, Scottsdale, Ariz., Melinda and Edward Kronholm, Tempe, Ariz., and Lisa Brundage, Louisville, Ky. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and "one on the way." She is survived by three sisters and one brother-in-law, Sally Lane, Apalachin, N.Y., Kay and Tom Yarrington, Endwell, N.Y., Judy Conlon, Charlotte, N.C.; and one brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Midge Brown, Tucson, Ariz.; plus many, many nieces and nephews. Pat Vail started her career as an IBM assistant to the engineering department, proof-reading and assisting with plans. She later became a realtor and worked for her father in his real estate office in upstate N.Y., Ken W. Brown Real Estate, along with raising her daughters. After many years of working as a real estate agent, she, her husband and youngest daughter, Lisa, moved to Boca Raton, Fla., where she was supposed to retire. Ever the go-getter, she took a job at a high-end linen store named "Gattles." At first she was only a salesperson, but over the years she became a manager of the Boca store and then a buyer for all of the Gattles stores throughout the country. Once her husband died in 1988, she waited a year and then moved to Scottsdale, Ariz. Still unable to relax and retire, she began working as a part-time sales person at the "Linen Tree" in Scottsdale, and volunteered at Taliesin, the Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture. When asked to become a full-time trainer for the volunteers at Taliesin, she jumped at the chance to work full-time for a school and community that she loved. Later on, she only did the night hours and eventually did retire. Pat was a hard worker, inventive, creative, stylish, ever the lady and matriarch of a family of girls. She will be missed by all who knew her and welcomed into God's Kingdom. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m., Thursday, July 17, at Messinger Mortuary, 7601 E. Indian School Rd., Scottsdale. A Mass will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m., Friday, July 18, followed by a reception at the Franciscan Renewal Center, 5802 E. Lincoln Dr., Paradise Valley, Ariz.

I have sat down many times and tried to express what I thougt and how I felt about "mom" but is impossible for me to do this simply, put "she was the greatest" and had a great influence on my life ( and many others)

This complex, interesting, creative woman was my mother. Her loss has placed a hole in my universe. She has not lived in the Triple Cities for many years but anyone left that can remember her will mourn her loss. She was a true one of a kind. I appreciate all your words of support and kind prayers. Thank you. Kristin Vail Cavaliere

I send my sympathy to the entire family. I am so sorry I wasn't fortunate enough to know Patricia, but I consider her sister Kay to be my forever friend. I am sure that Pat has the same wonderful qualities that her sister has and can truly understand the loss everyone has felt. I will remember the family in my prayers and know they will soon have peace with their wonderful memories

Pat was a beautiful and gracious lady who left us all the richer for having known her. She was a warm and comforting hostess who also brightened the lives of a platoon of G company in the 1st Marines in November 1965 with the "bestest" bourbon balls ever in Southeast Asia.
