Thomas Thayne Obituary

Thomas E. Thayne
of Binghamton
Thomas E. Thayne, 65, of Binghamton, died unexpectedly Tuesday, July 15, 2008, at Wilson Memorial Regional Medical Center. He was predeceased by his parents, Edward and Marie Thayne; his sister, Jacqueline Crimmins; and his brother-in-law, James Crimmons. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Carol Thayne; his son and daughter-in-law, Timothy Thayne and Margaret McGarry; and his grandchildren, Thomas and Mary Louise; his daughter, Karen Thayne; her fiance, William Palmer and Hailey and Abigail; several nieces and nephews, Jimmy, Marie and Mike, Ann, Alice and Jeff, Danny; his in-laws, Paul, Billy and Ilene Greenwald; his aunt, Lois Thayne; and Godmother, Peg Guiton. Tom was a member of St. Paul's Church, Binghamton; graduate of Windsor High School; served in the United States Marine Corps; and was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. He was a longtime member of Teamsters Local 693 and for more than a decade Tom served with Gene Briggs as secretary-treasurer and then President of Local 693. Tommy spent his career arguing for the rights of local workers. Tommy enjoyed his grandchildren, breakfast at Rolando's and taking money from his friends at Genegantslet Golf Course. He had a sharp wit, was quick with a joke, and would do anything for his family and friends. He will be sadly missed. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Jerry Jones for all he did Tuesday and to Barb and Joe Ritz for always being there.
Funeral Services will be held at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton, Saturday at 9 a.m. and at 9:30 a.m. at St. Paul's Church where a Funeral Mass will be offered. Dear Carol, Timmy, Karen & Family, I was very sorry to hear of the death of your Husband/Father Tommy. He was always very kind to me and to my Family, over the years. He had a quick wit and sense of humor. He was also very kind to, and highly thought of, by his in-laws, Tom & Marion, who were my neighbors for over 40 years. I was at Carol and Tommy's wedding when I was 11 in 1968. I am sorry I did not attend the services, I was in CA on vacation, or I would've been there. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Love, Rick Hatch & Family

Carol, my sympathy to you and your family. I knew Tom from our days at Windsor. Many a Sunday morning we would all meet at the old Tommy's diner on Court St for breakfast. I also would get to see Tom in Syracuse in the early 90's when we both were working in SYracuse. He did indeed have a great wit! He will be missed.
