Eugene Francis (Geno) Hannon
of Binghamton
Eugene Francis (Geno) Hannon passed away peacefully on July 15, 2008. He was born on December 22, 1923 to John and Mary Hannon of Binghamton. He was predeceased by his wife, Wilhelmina (Mina) and is survived by a son, John Michael; daughters, Kathleen, Patricia, Mary, Maxine, Maureen, Jean, Ellen and Colleen; sons-in-law, Lee Benedict and Robert Kittle; six grandchildren, Christopher, Elizabeth, Ryan, Shannon, Wyatt and Liam; a sister and brother-in-law, Lucille and Richard Walsh and nephews, Terry and Shawn Walsh and family; a sister-in-law, Ann Arnold; the Gardiner and Kimmell families. He attended Tulane University and received a BA from Villanova and a Master's Degree from Cornell in 1952. He claimed to be an avid fisherman, hunter and jogger, but rumor has it he enjoyed his days bantering with his friends at the Triangle where he was known as Jo-Bob. He loved to watch Jeopardy, the Detroit Tigers, Notre Dame, do crosswords and read. Always had his bag packed to travel on a minute's notice! Dad we love you and will always remember the wonderful memories you have given us. We will miss you. The family would like to thank Lourdes Hospice and homecare for their wonderful care and assistance.

Eugene Hannon was always Mr. Hannon to me. I remember breaking his metal saw trying to saw wood. I remember using all of his good wood scraps trying to make furniture for a play house. He never took after me even though I probably deserved it. The nine Hannon children he left behind are a great tribute to his life. They are all good people and have always been great neighbors.

One of the best days of my life was when Geno moved his family into the house on Bigelow Street. Gene, Mina, and the kids all were the best neighbors; and the "kids" are still great friends. I wish I could be up there with you all. Gene was a nice man and cared about all of you so much. Take care of each other. Our thoughts are with you. Donna (& Julie too)

Dear Hannon Family:
I am saddened to read about the passing of "Geno". I spent many of days at the Hannon's house, hanging out with his daughters, especially Maureen. He had such a wit about him. I can remember spending many of hours at Sammy's debating various topics with Gene. As some one wrote earlier, he indeed was a East Side legend. My condolensences to the entire Hannon family at this time of loss.

To all the Hannons,

I knew your dad since I was a young man, when he was purchasing agent for GAF. My family had a coal and oil business (used to sell you oil at your house) your dad always treated us well and helped us to get business at GAF. He was always a gentleman and even though I haven't seen him in many years I think of him and how nice he was. I also remember your mom's great cheese stuffed meatloaf when I was a guest at the house for dinner. I have fond memories of both your parents...the world needs more people like them. My deepest sympathy on your father's passing.
