Alethea Grant Obituary

Alethea Grant
of Endicott
After suffering a broken heart at the loss of her husband (Jerry), Alethea Mae (Tuttle) Grant, age 81, went to join him on August 4, 2008, just 2 weeks after his passing. Her family surrounded her with love and support at the Vestal Nursing Center on the last days of her time here on Earth. She was born November 27, 1926 in Endicott to the late Andrew and Mary E. (Knickerbocker) Tuttle. She was the last of 12 children. Surviving are her brother-in-law, Howard Grant; sons, Gerald M., Robert (Debi), and Craig; daughters, Denise (Michael Bashta) and Lisa Sampson; 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Alethea grew up on the north side of Endicott. She left home at an early age and worked briefly at a shoe factory before becoming a head clerk at Newberry's 5 & 10 store. She enjoyed her life as a single well dressed woman until she was 23 at which time she married. She quit work to become a wife, homemaker and wonderful mother. After raising 5 children, she became a warm and loving grandmother and great-grandmother. She left a legacy of compassion, tolerance and charity. The family wishes to offer sincere thanks to the staff of the Vestal Nursing Center for their loving care and the staff of Lourdes Hospice. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: Lourdes Hospice, 4102 Old Vestal Road, Vestal, N.Y. 13850.
The family will receive friends at Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home, 300 E. Main St., Endicott, N.Y., on Thursday, August 7th, from 5-7 p.m. and on Friday, August 8th, at 12:30 p.m., prior to the 1 p.m. funeral service. Burial will be in Vestal Park Cemetery.
