James Volpe Obituary

James Dale Volpe
of Greene
James Dale Volpe passed away suddenly on August 4th, at his home. Born on July 17, 1957 in Frankfort, Michigan to M. Carroll (Zimmerman) Volpe and Dale Edmund Volpe, Jim grew up in Benzie County. After graduating from Benzie Central High School, Jim obtained a degree in Forestry at Northwestern Michigan College before he set off to conquer the world. Jim always had a wander lust about him, which first took him to California, then Florida, then off to upstate New York, where he settled in, making a home. He loved working his farm land, and hunting and fishing with his friends and neighbors. As an accomplished stonemason, Jim took pleasure in creating artistic designs with different rocks. He was retired from Anitec and was an active member in the Chemical Workers' Union. Jim spent his winters in Florida, where he was renovating a home and his summers back in Michigan and New York. Jim is survived by both his parents; stepmother, Sandy; his siblings, Susan Lemon, Grand Rapids, Robert (Debra) Volpe, Northfield, Illinois, Stephanie (Chad) Sutherland, St. Michael, Minnesota, Vanessa Mills, Frankfort, Michigan, and Michael Volpe, Cocoa, Florida; stepsiblings, Kathy Woods, Jama (Chet) Nisonger, Todd Volpe; and a multitude of aunts and uncles, several nieces and nephews; and his faithful companion, Bennie.
Friends of the family may call Saturday, from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. at Root Funeral Home, 23 North Chenango St., Greene, N.Y. 13778. Funeral services will be private.

A recent picture of Jim.. at the cabin just relaxing

Jim was our friend, he was always there for us.
We have great memories at the cabin in NY, his presense will always be there, since he was responsible for building it..
We have memories of ATV riding, he founded the only ATV club in the county, and we had the best time riding all the trails..
He was an avid deer hunter and every year there was the 'big one' lurking around that he was going to get and if he didn't he had a good story why not..
Memories of being in the rain during one of his many pig roasts down in the 'creek flat'..
Memories of fishing and swimming in the pond.. he jumped in one time with all his clothes.. it was hot.. Roasting rabbits and cooking deer.

We had the pleasure of attending Jim's wedding to Lisa, we were shocked, we had never seen Jim look so good, in a tux.. we spend a lot of holidays with him, he always showed up at the cabin in the morning with his cup of coffee ready for a refill.. He could drink the stuff all day..
He fed and raised a baby deer found hurt in the woods.. he was a hard worker and knew something about everything, he raised cows and pigs at one point, great eats.. we were there when he built his house stone by stone, it was one of his dreams.. He loved to visit his family in Michigan we were always amazed that he made it there and back.. knowing the cars he drove... He loved his house in florida and spending time with his brother.. which turned out better than the houseboat he talked about buying and living in..
He was a man of many dreams, we are glad he had the opportunity to realize some of them..
Our deepest sympathies to the Volpe family.
We loved him and will miss him
