Mary L. Olenski
of Vestal
Mary L. Olenski, 87, of Vestal, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 8, 2008, at the James G. Johnston Nursing Home, Johnson City. She was predeceased by her husband, Mitchell Olenski; two brothers, Michael and Tony Begovich; and one sister, Katie Begovich. She is survived by her five sons and their spouses, Mitchell Olenski Jr., Vestal, Michael (Ruth) Olenski, Canton, Ohio, Matthew (Sherrie) Olenski, Strafford, N.H., Mark (Sharon) Olenski, Jacksonville, Fla., and Marten (Dawn) Olenski, Binghamton; one sister, Frana Begovich, Rock Springs, Wyoming; seven grandchildren, Rob Finch, Dayton, Ohio, Christopher Olenski, Binghamton, Amie Olenski, Dayton, Ohio, Lisa Olenski, Georgia, Lara Olenski, Dayton, Ohio, Elizabeth Olenski, Lincoln, Nebraska and Jeremy Olenski, Binghamton; also several great-grandchildren. Mary was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Roman Catholic Church, Vestal. She and her husband were previous owners of Mary's Restaurant, Hinman's Corners, for 50 years. During WWII, she served as a secretary at Fort Francis E. Warren, in Cheyenne, Wyoming. The family would like to thank Dr. Ellison, Dr. McClure, Dr. Greenberg and the staff at James G. Johnston Nursing Home for their compassionate care during Mary's stay.
A Funeral Service will be held 9:15 a.m., Tuesday, August 12, 2008, at Laskowski Funeral Home, and at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, from 5 to 8 p.m.

I'll carry fond memories of "Maude" forever. She took pride in her role as mother to 5 great sons, and wife to a super dad. She was the rock, the heart, and soule of the Olenski clan.
She was a friend to me and a favorite mother. I'll miss her stern look and cheerful smile, but they will be remembered forever.
Rest in peace "Maude" and say hello to "Big Daddy" for me.

To Marty,Dawn,Mo and Jeremy and family.I am so sorry to hear about your mom.I will miss her she was a sweet lady and made me laugh.I loved when she came to the salon to get her hair done.She always had nice things to say about my place and loved getting pampered.It was a fuss at first but at the end she enjoyed it.She always had to sweep up her hair when we were done.She will be missed.
