John "Jack" Steele
formerly of Owego
John G. Steele, 88, of North Rose, N.Y. passed away on Monday, August 11, 2008, in Newark, N.Y. Mr. Steele was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Catherine Steele; four brothers, Charles "Chic", Roy, Ted, Robert; sister, Margaret. He is survived by his children and their spouses, Michael P. and Pamela Steele, Manlius, N.Y., Thomas and Karen Steele, Webster, N.Y.; Jackie and David Burns, North Rose, N.Y.; five grandchildren, Kyle Steele, Kelly Steele, Matthew and Jennifer Steele, Timothy Burns, Kristi and Jonathan Hochreiter; one great-granddaughter, Katherine Rose Steele; two sisters, Louise Harris, Dorothy Steele; one brother and five sisters-in-law, Paul and Dorothy Steele, Jeanne Steele, Martha Steele, Dorothy Steele, Rita Callahan; several nieces and nephews. Mr. Steele was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Army. He retired from IBM Corp. Jack was a member of BPOE Lodge #1039, VFW Post #1371, and the American Legion Post #401.
Private Funeral Services will be held at the Estey, Munroe and Fahey Funeral Home, 15 Park St., Owego. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Owego, N.Y. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in John "Jack" Steele's memory to the Owego Fire/Emergency Squad, P.O. Box 22, Owego, N.Y. 13827.

Jack and Kate were friends of my parents - Leo and Connie Lawrence - and I remember them as very classy folks. I'm sorry to hear of Jack's passing. My thoughts are with all of you.
