To the family of John Burke I give my deepest sympathies for your tremendous loss. I met John when he was at the hospital caring for your mom before she died. I tried to walk him through his sorrow. We met up again when he became a patient on my floor at Lourdes. I admired his humor and strength and once again offered him opportunities to walk through his own grieving process. I was saddened to learn that on the week I was away on vacation, he returned once again to my floor for the final time. A nurse told me he was looking for me. I regret that I was away at the time but perhaps it was better as the same nurse told me that all his family gathered at his bedside. How very comforting that must have been for him, the tough NYC retired detective who found it so difficult to share emotion. My prayers are with you all. I know your loss of both parents over the past 2 years can seem unbearable. To John: I'm sorry I was not working the week you took your last steps on your worldly journey and entered your heavenly journey. You will be remembered! A nurse caremanager and friend.
