Madeline Brundage Obituary

Madeline (Griffin) Brundage
of Binghamton
8/16/1932 to 8/17/2008
Madeline Joyce (Griffin) Brundage passed away peacefully, August 17, 2008, surrounded by her adoring family after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's Disease, on the second floor of Elizabeth Church Manor, where she received loving and excellent care in her final days. Madeline was a lifelong resident of Binghamton and is survived by her loving husband of almost 52 years, James H. Brundage. Madeline is also survived by her six children, James F. and Anita Brundage and their grandchildren, Long Lake, N.Y., Suzanne Brundage and Jo Anne Pepe and their grandchildren, Mayfield, N.Y., Jerry and Melody Brundage and Katelyn and Hannah Brundage, Binghamton, Gary and Linda Brundage, Binghamton, Richard Brundage, Binghamton, Steven and Michelle and Corrie Brundage, Binghamton; and Madeline's faithful dog, Toby. She is survived by two sisters and one brother, Mary Louise Sexton and her husband, William Sexton, Binghamton, Noreen McMahon, Alexandria, Va., and John (Jack) Griffin and his wife, Judy Griffin, Binghamton. She is also survived by her loving nieces and nephew, and had a special friendship with her oldest granddaughter, Katelyn S. Brundage. Madeline was predeceased by her parents, Madeline and Francis Griffin; her niece, Theresa McMahon; and her nephew, Timothy Sexton. Madeline will always be remembered for being a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Madeline had a rare quality for making us all feel very special and loved. Madelines' greatest joys came from spending time with her family and friends. She loved family vacation, laughing, shopping for a bargain and trips to Saratoga for the races. Madeline graduated from Saint Paul's High School in 1951. After she married, she stayed home to raise her six children and then returned to the workforce in both the restaurant business, where she was a hostess at Steven's Square, number 5 and Mauro's to name her favorites, and the fashion business, Derby Fashion's from which she retired at the age of 70. Madeline will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. She is an inspiration to us all. Even while she was in the depths and grip of Alzheimer's Disease she remained as loving and kind as she had always been. She was always a lady.
A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Patrick's Church, Binghamton, Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be in Spring Forest Cemetery, Binghamton. The family will receive friends at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton, Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations would be greatly appreciated to the Alzheimer's Association, 401 Hayes Avenue, Endicott, N.Y. 13760

Sorry to hear about Madeline's passing as I was out of town when I heard the news. Please accept my sincerest condolences to all of the family. I have fond memories of my years being Madeline's neighbor on Mary Street and sharing times together with our children. My children lovingly referred to her as "Aunt Madeline." I viewed Madeline as a dear friend and she will be missed dearly.

I was out of town and just learned of Madeline's passing. Please accept my sincere sympathy.

I worked with Madeline at Maro's and I never enjoyed someone as much as Madeline. She had the greatest smile and not to mention a fabulous sense of humor. She could always turn a bad day into a great day. Guests and co-workers all enjoyed being around Madeline.

She will be missed but always remembered.

Dear Steve, Michelle, Corrie & families:

We were so very sorry to learn of your great loss. Steve, your mom must be at peace now (though that does not make her passing easier to bear). I hope all of you have some peaceful times, too, thinking of happy memories of which she must have shared and contributed to many. A hug to you all, Steve's dad, and keeping you all in our thoughts.

Sincerely,

Karen, Tabitha, Phoebe Coplin
