Beverly Olmstead Obituary

Beverly J. Olmstead
of Binghamton
Beverly J. Olmstead, 80, of Binghamton, died early Wednesday morning, August 27, 2008, at Wilson Memorial Regional Medical Center in Johnson City. She was born August 25, 1928 in Herkimer, the daughter of Ernest W. and Vivian M. (Baxter) Cornell. She married Leonard H. (Dick) Olmstead on November 7, 1953 at the Cooperstown Methodist Church. He died July 9, 2008. After graduating from high school, Beverly served as a waitress and cook at the Cooperstown Diner on Main Street. After moving to the Binghamton area, she was employed for 25 years as a cashier at K-Mart. Beverly's family was very important to her and her greatest joy was spending time with her grandsons and great-grandchildren. She will be remembered as a fantastic mother and will be greatly missed. Beverly is survived by one daughter, Connie Trout and her husband, Richard, Port Crane; two grandsons, Jonathan, and his wife, Kim, and Chris, and his wife, Chloe; four great-grandchildren, Taylor, Dakota, Makaila, and Ashley; three brothers, Donald W. Cornell, Cooperstown, Harold A. Cornell and his wife, Kathy, Oneonta, and Richard C. Cornell and his wife, Sue, Oneonta; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Wanda Richards, Cooperstown; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband of 54 years, Dick - who died less than two months ago - Beverly was predeceased by one brother, Robert W. Cornell, who died May 4, 1993. Beverly's family takes great comfort in knowing that she and her beloved husband are now together. The family wishes to extend special thanks and gratitude to Tammy, a nurse at Wilson Memorial Hospital, for providing wonderful care and for staying with them throughout Beverly's most recent illness.
A graveside service will be offered at 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 30, 2008, at the Hartwick Seminary Cemetery with the Rev. Samuel B. Abbott, Rector of Christ Church in Cooperstown, officiating. Expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial gifts may be made to a charity of one's choice. Funeral arrangements are by the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.
