Camille Claymon Obituary

Camille T. Claymon, PhD
of Vestal
Camille Claymon passed away Sunday, August 31, at Binghamton General Hospital. She was born to Elmo A. Todd and Margaret Browder in Crowell, Texas. Her mother loved to tell people how Camille won the title, "The Prettiest Baby in Texas,". She grew to become an accomplished horse-woman from an early age on the family's ranch. Camille loved the out-of-doors; however, a strong academic focus defined her life. She attended grammar school in Truscott, Texas; and later graduated Valedictorian of her class from Crowell High School at the age of 14. She enjoyed participating in High School Scholastic competitions, theatrical productions, and served as Editor of her High School section of The Foard County News. Camille attended Stephens College, Columbia Missouri, and later received her B.A. degree as a Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Texas, (Austin). Following her marriage to Richard M. Claymon and the birth of her son Richard Lucas Claymon, Camille completed her graduate work at Washington University, St Louis Missouri. Camille served on the faculty of Rutgers University in New Jersey, and then became the Executive Director of the National Association of Social Work, New York State Chapter. She was also Site Surveyor with the Council on Social Work Education until her retirement in 2001. Camille was a caring, kind, courageous, incisive woman who was self-less. She is survived by her loving family, brother, Charles Todd, son, Luke, and her close, dear friend, Rita Shawn. She will always be remembered for her patience, huge intellect and her gracious rapier wit.
At the family's request there will be no calling hours. Contributions may be made to the American Lung Association of New York, 700 Veterans Memorial Highway, Hauppauge, L.I., 11788-2952 or the American Cancer Society, 33 Beech St., Johnson City, N.Y. 13790.

I was so saddened to hear from a colleague from Binghamton of Camille's passing. She was such a dedicated Social Worker and so full of spirit. Time spent with Camille was always memorable. How fortunate she was to have Rita as a colleague and friend. Both have influenced my social work career. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

I am deeply saddened by the Loss of Camille.

I worked with her for 4 years @NASWNYS Chapter.

We had a lot of laughs her I and Rita Shawn.

I also want to give my Condolences to Luke.

I had the pleasure of meeting him several times while working for Camille@NASWNYS.

She Loved working for NASWNYS and Helping Social Work be a Profession that she Enjoyed and so many people did not know what social workers do, so she enjoyed writing policy for the Profession and letting the Public Community actually know what Social Workers are and what they do for thier Community.

Kudos to Camille!

She was an Inspiration that will be truly missed
