George F. Golis
of Montrose, Pa.
George F. Golis, 85, of Montrose, Pa., passed away on Friday, September 5, 2008, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born in South Bound Brook, N.J., to the late Peter and Elizabeth (Rybak) Golis. His wife of 57 years, MayBelle (Woodin) Golis survives. Also surviving are his four daughters and sons-in-law, Marjorie and Mark Hebert, Reno, Nev.;, Susan and Gary Campbell, Montrose, Pa., Diana and Tom Williams, Glenwood Springs, Colo., RoseMary and Will Franssen, Montrose, Pa., two grandsons, Mackenzie and Cody Franssen, sister and brother-in-law, Katie and Chet Bielucki, Newville, Pa., numerous nieces and nephews. George was predeceased by his two sisters, Mary Sibilia and Helen Grick and five brothers, Mike, Joe, Paul, Carl and Tony Golis. George grew up on a farm near Williams Pond and served in the U.S. Navy as an early Radar operator on the U.S.S. Mobile in the South Pacific during WWII. He worked at IBM and Bendix before founding the Golis Machine Shop in 1971. He played baseball on the famous Montrose Baseball team. George was an avid crossword puzzler, hunter, golfer, and craftsman. He was active in the Montrose Presbyterian Church and the Evangelical Free Church. George will be remembered for his compassion and generosity and willingness to help anyone in need. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 9, 2008, at the Evangelical Free Church, Montrose, Pa., with Rev. Rodney Clark of the Evangelical Free Church officiating. Interment will be in the Montrose Cemetery. Visitations will be from 11 to 1 p.m. at the church prior to the service. Donations in memory of George can be made to the Evangelical Free Church. Arrangements were through the Daniel K. Regan Funeral Home.
