Amelia "Millie" Bednar
of Johnson City
Amelia "Millie" Bednar, 91, of Johnson City, NY, passed away Tuesday morning, September 9, 2008 at the James G. Johnston Nursing Home. She was predeceased by her parents, Michael and Emilia Stasko; husband, Michael Bednar; twin brother, Michael Stasko; brothers, Nicholas, Walter, John and Andrew; sisters, Julia Stasko Tita, Mary Stasko Duby and Olga Stasko. She is survived by three daughters and one son-in-law, Millie and Bill Dekar, Joyce Plocinski and Judith Ann Orzel; her sister, Irene Kovalik and husband, Martin; brothers, George Stasko and wife, Lucille, Peter Stasko and Shirley; sisters-in-law, Eva Stasko, Luise Stasko and Sophie Stasko; grandchildren, David Dekar and friend, Kris Ann Kvassay, Deborah Dekar and friend, Julia Basile, Donna Dekar Davie and friend, Jeff Woolever, Donald Plocinski and wife, Karen, Mitzi Plocinski Sherba and husband, George; five great-grandchildren, Ann Marie Plocinski and Sony Jean-Philippe, Dianna Plocinski, Dennis Sherba, J.T. Sherba (who loved her potato pancakes) and Joey Davie; one great-great-grandchild, Makaylah Ann Jean-Philippe; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Amelia was a member of St. James Church, Johnson City. She worked at Endicott Johnson Corporation for many years, Endwell Bakery and retired from General Electric Corp.
The family wishes to thank all the staff at Woodland Manor where she resided since 1999 especially Colleen Hunt and the staff at Star Unit Hilltop Nursing Home, where she resided since April 2008.
Funeral services will be held at the J.F. Rice Funeral Home, Inc., 150 Main St., Johnson City, Saturday at 9 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. at St. James Church, where a Funeral Mass will be offered. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, Friday, from 5 to 7 p.m. Those wishing may make memorial contributions to St. James Church Memorial Fund, 147 Main St., Johnson City, N.Y. 13790 in Amelia Bednar's memory.

I visited Millie, to bring her communion from St James church. She only received once in July, but she did pray with me just last Friday.
She was able to remember and did pray the Our Father and Hail Mary, word for word. I will always remember and pray for Millie, my brief encounter with her touched my life.
