Thomas Gunther Obituary
of Endicott
Thomas D. Gunther, 68, of Endicott, passed on Sunday, September 14, 2008, at Lourdes Hospital, Binghamton. He is predeceased by his parents, Clinton and Hilda Gunther. He is survived by his wife, Donna (Weeks), Endicott; his mother-in-law, Eunice Weeks, Owego; two sisters-in-law, Terrie (Tony) Fox, Nichols, N.Y., Sandy Weeks, Owego; a special brother-in-law, Bill (Jennifer) Weeks, Newark Valley. There are five nieces and nephews who adored their Uncle Tom: Jon Fox, Amanda Fox, Katie Weeks, Nicole Weeks, and Austin (Buddy) Weeks; also several cousins and second cousins in the Gunther family. Tom was a US Veteran, serving in the United States Marine Corps. He was a member of the American Legion Post #1700, West Endicott. He was a retired IBM employee with 30 years of service and a member of the IBM Quarter Century Club. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #99 and a current employee of the Broome County Government Security Division.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday, September 18, 2008, at the Endwell United Methodist Church, 3301 Watson Blvd., Endwell, N.Y. The Rev. Vickie L. Maxon will officiate. The family will receive friends at the Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home, Inc., 300 East Main St., Endicott, Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. Those wishing may make contributions in Tom's memory to the American Cancer Society, Broome County Chapter, 13 Beech St., Johnson City, N.Y. 13790, or to the American Red Cross, Southern Tier Chapter, 620 East Main St., Endicott, N.Y. 13760.

I have known Tom for the 20 yrs I have been at the County. I will miss his presence everyday. The ceremony at the church was a great tribute to him; you could feel the love and sadness in the room. God Bless.

I am SO sorry. I had no idea this had happened until I went to the credit union for Family Day yesterday. I wondered what would keep you away and was shocked to hear why. You and Tom were the loves of each other's lives and you could always tell how much you cared about each other. Tom always gave everyone a bright smile that lit up his whole face and I will miss him although I haven't seen him in years. I wish that I could send you a big hug and a shoulder to lean on. Please know that Mike's and my thoughts are with you through this awful time.

Aunt Donna,
I love you soooo much. Uncle Tom is looking down on you right now and he is so proud of you! I will always be here for you no matter what, (even at two o'clock in the morning.) Any time you want to talk about all of our amazing trips, our hilarious car rides, or our simply lovely hang outs I will be there with a pain in my side from laughing so hard. Aunt Donna I just want you to know that I love you and I will be here right next to you to help face the trials that we might have ahead of us. Broome County Security has lost another good guy. Joe and Tom were good freinds since thier IBM days. I'm sure they are together sharing a laugh. I will allways remember Tom's wonderful smile and caring way. He will be missed. My thougnts and prayers are with you.

Tom or Thomas as I called him - he was quite a guy! That smile we will all remember and his witty ways.... “Hit’em good tonight” – he’d say as I was on my way to golf league, Ring, Ring, Ringing the bell for a little camaraderie at our window across the hall in IT to say hello or tell a joke. We all will miss him dearly and want to extend our deepest sympathy to Donna and all the family in this time.
He was a wonderful coworker and friend to us all. And he’d probably tell us to smile, tell a joke, and think of the good times. God Bless him and all of his family.

Donna, I am so sorry for your loss. Tom was a great guy. Even after I left security I would try to stop in and see him. He was a connection to my dad (Joe) and he always had something to tell me about him. I will forever be grateful for that. I am going to miss him.

We were saddened by the news that you have lost your soulmate. Tom will always be remembered for his infectious laugh and that big Teddy Bear look of his.
We never go down that section of I-81 where there is a landmark named for Tom without thinking about him and chuckling.

Donna, Tom's write up is beautiful. He was an amazing brother in law and I will miss him on so many levels. His gift of laughter will help us all through these hard times. No words said here can ease the loss that we all feel right now. Just know that you are not alone and that we are always here for you. Tom was quite a guy and we will all miss his wisdom but most of all his sense of humor (I guess it was humor). At times he could be a bear but the majority of the time he was just a teddy bear. May God grant him peace now and may he always be in our hearts.
