Alice Lee Obituary

Alice Quinn Lee
of Norwich
Alice Quinn Lee, 89, of Norwich, died on September 18, 2008 after a brief illness. She was born on December 22, 1918, the only child of Maurice Quinn and Laura Newton Quinn. Alice was a bright student who finished Norwich High School at the early age of sixteen. She went on to graduate from Cornell University with honors. In 1942, Alice married David F. Lee, Jr., a local attorney, who later became a Justice of the New York State Supreme Court. Alice worked for a period of time in the Norwich School District as a secretary to the Principal and then the Superintendent. Education was important to her and she had a sharp intellect with a curiosity about life. She was a dedicated teacher for Literacy Volunteers and had a strong impact on the education of many people. Alice appreciated learning about different cultures from her students as well as teaching them. Music was a great joy for Alice. She was a gifted pianist who often accompanied local groups. She was a longstanding member of the Monday Evening Musical Club. One of Alice's great pleasures was attending opera at Glimmerglass every year with her dear friend, Patti Curtis. Her leisure time was often spent working on a New York Times crossword puzzle or reading a book of mystery. As a child, Alice often accompanied her father, a local veterinarian, on his visits to farms around the county. She shared his love of animals and was an expert horsewoman. Alice and her husband, Dave, rode together for many years. She treasured the memories of their visits to the Dublin Horse Show. Alice was often found feeding and admiring the birds in her neighborhood and was a participant in the annual bird count. She was a lifelong member of the Broad Street United Methodist Church. Alice was a mild mannered woman committed to the greater good of all. Alice was predeceased by her husband, Supreme Court Justice David F. Lee, Jr. She is survived by several nieces and nephews, John Dessauer, Margot Norton, Tomas Dessauer, David Murphy, Joseph Murphy, James Murphy, Cynthia Maynerd, Virginia Lee and Nancy McGann; her sister-in-law, Ellen Lee; and many great nieces and nephews as well as several Quinn family cousins.
