Dorothy Pickney
of Binghamton, N.Y.
Dorothy Pickney, age 89, of Binghamton, passed away peacefully Tuesday, October 7, 2008. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, James Pickney; six sisters, and one brother. She is survived by one brother, Charles Whetsell; several nieces and nephews. She loved them all, especially her godchild, Laura Murphy, Georgia. She spent her life caring for others. On May 2, 1947, Dorothy joined the U.S. Army to care for the wounded GI's. She was stationed at Mayo General Hospital in Galesburg, Illinois. She retired from the Binghamton Psychiatric Center in 1981 after 27 years of service. The family wishes to thank all of the dedicated staff at Susquehanna Nursing Facility for their care and kindness over the last three and a half years.
A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Paul's Church, Binghamton, Friday at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Vestal Hills Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at St. Paul's Church Friday, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Arrangements are by the Thomas J. Shea Funeral Home, Inc., 137 Robinson St., Binghamton. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make memorial contributions to St. Paul's Church, 15 Doubleday St., Binghamton, N.Y. 13904, in memory of Dorothy Pickney.

Norma & Family,

I'm so sorry to hear about Aunt Dot. She was such a wonderful person and always made me feel so good and I will always remember her smile and her very kind heart. I'm sure you all will miss her tremondously. Heaven just received another angel to watch over all of us. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you need anything at all and take care of yourselves. God Bless you all.
