Chester C. Majka
of Johnson City, N.Y.
Chester C. Majka, 89, of Johnson City, N.Y., passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, October 19, 2008. He was one of ten children born to Joseph and Rose Majka and was predeceased by four brothers, Walter, John, Edward, and Henry Majka; and four sisters, Julia Sandowicz, Jane Czyzscon, Helen Zipay, and Ann Barry. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Anna Majka, Johnson City; a daughter and son-in-law, Nadania and James Baumgartner, Binghamton; brother and three sisters-in-law, Emil and Cathy Majka, Endicott, Ruth Majka, Endicott, Netty Majka, Endwell; many nieces and nephews. Chester was proud to serve his country as a Staff Sergeant in the US Army during WWII, where he was stationed in Australia and fought in the Battle of Buna in New Guinea. As a young man, he enjoyed playing baseball, golfing, fishing, and walking 18 holes of golf well into his 80's. He was a self-employed barber shop owner in Johnson City and retired when he was in his 70's. We will miss him and he will always be in our hearts.
Honoring Chester's wishes, there will be no calling hours. Donations may be made in Chester's name to Lourdes Hospice, 169 Riverside Dr., Binghamton, N.Y. 13905, or to Project Paw, 127 Bevier St., Binghamton, N.Y. 13904. Arrangements and supervision by:
