George Strom Obituary

George Strom
of Endwell
Our beloved husband, father and the light of our lives, George Strom, lost his courageous battle with cancer on Sunday, October 26, 2008. He faced his devastating illness with bravery, a positive attitude and a sense of humor. George was predeceased by his parents, John and Agda Strom; sisters, Grace Curtin and Lily Murphey; and a brother, John Strom. Carrying on his memory are his wife, Mary; daughters, Susan and Patricia; brother, Howard and his wife, Dorothy Strom; sister, Elsie Gozzio; and brother, Richard Strom; and many nieces and nephews. George was a Korean War veteran and served in the U.S. Army in the First Infantry Division. He retired from IBM after many years as a Systems Analyst. George enjoyed cooking, gardening and was very mechanically inclined and liked tinkering around the house and was an avid sports fan. He loved to sing, always had a song in his heart, and enjoyed sharing the gift of music with his fellow barber shop buddies as a longtime member of the Southertiersman Chorus. His beautiful voice will forever be missed. Most of all, George took great pride and joy in showering his family with his limitless love, affection and generosity. The family thanks Dr. Ronald Harris and his staff and the staff at Wilson South Tower 3 and 5 for their kindness, compassion and wonderful care.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 12 noon from Our Savior Lutheran Church, 731 Hooper Road, Endwell. The Rev. James Walck, Pastor of his church, will officiate. Entombment will be in Riverhurst Cemetery, Endwell. The family will receive friends at the Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home, Inc., 300 E. Main Street, Endicott, Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the American Cancer Society, 13 Beech Street, Johnson City, N.Y. 13790; or to the Humane Society, 2 Jackson Street, Binghamton, N.Y. 13903.
