To the Downey family,
Please accept my sincere condolences on the passing of Eddie. I will always remember the good times we had growing up across the street from each other on Rotary Ave. Eddie was just a good all around guy. Hold onto those wonderful memories. May our thoughts and prayers be with all of you in this time of great sorrow.

DEAR DOWNEY FAMILY,
I REMEMBER ED AS A YOUNG LAD AND LATER IN LIFE WE WROKED TOGETHER IN THE BINGHAMTON POLICE BUREAU. HE ALWAYS HAD THE DESIRE TO BE A POLICE OFFICER AND HE PROVED HE WAS ONE OF THE BEST AS HE DID HIS JOB. HE WAS ALSO A GENTLEMAN AND ALWAYS RESPECTED HIS SENIOR OFFICERS AND OTHERS HE CAME IN CONTACT WITH. MAY HE REST IN PEACE.
HIS OLD FRIEND,
JIM Mc LAUGHLIN - RET. BPD

To the Downey Family
I was sorry to read about the passing of Ed, the first time I met Ed was at his Dad’s gas station at Memorial Circle when I was delivering Coca-Cola to his Dad . Over the years to come I got to know a very gracious and humble man. I can still remember the first day he started to walk the beat for the Binghamton Police Department. We had a lot laughs that day. A great man that will be missed by many. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time.

Eddie was a fine guy. He and his dad helped me rehabilitate a few worthless old cars. I have a photo of him from the 1958 AZ composite, and will be glad to share.

I'm so sorry, Ann, in the death of your brother. No matter how many years you have had to spend with someone, the loss is always difficult. I have such fond memories of our days together at Cortland, and I can't believe so much time has passed. I hope all the love coming your way will help with the healing and I hope we can be in touch someday.

Dear Ann,
Ira and I extend our sympathy to you and your family. We know how difficult this must be. I remember visiting your family with you in our college days and it was such a warm and happy group. Hold onto those good memories. Over the years, I have asked Bal and Eileen and neither had your address. We are all anxious to re-connect. When things settle down, I hope to hear from you. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Love, Janie B.

Ann, my sympathy during this sad time of loss for you and your family. Your brother sounds like he was very special and well loved by many. Ann, I remember college...spring break...Florida...our frivolous decision to fly rather than take our ride back north and your brother's good natured willingness to drive all night long to pick up his sister and her crazy friend at the airport in New York.

Dear Anne Marie:

So many years have passed since Cortland and our last visit at a conference in Alabama. I am saddened to learn of Eddie's passing and though I did not have the pleasure of knowing him personally, knowing you and meeting members of your wonderful family at Jeannie's wedding so many years ago left an indelible impression... a close knit family, full of laughter and love and life.

Faith is tested at times like these... a loss brings immeasurable grief... time heals and by some miracle thoughts of Eddie that bring tears to your eyes now, will bring joy to your heart as you embrace the memories of a beloved brother and lives shared.

I am thinking of you... and hoping that you will reconnect after so many years.

Peace and love to you and your family and may Eddie rest in peace

Much love,
Susie

So sorry to learn about the loss of your brother and friend. Our family knew the Downey family way back when we all were kids and Eddie, Jerry, and Anne went to Camp Huskee. I know my dad and mom thought a great deal of all of you. I hope you don't mind that I added a picture of the good old days. Mom and I will try to get to the funeral but if not, I would really like to get back in contact with Anne Marie.

My sincere condolances to the Downey Family. Ed was a very special friend. We enjoyed our many years of playing golf, vacationing in Florida, Puerto Rico and Jamacia. Not to mention our nights at the Ponderosa.

I know he is in heaven as he lived a good life never hurting anyone. Many people are not aware that Ed visited his mother evey day while she was in the hospital and then went to the nursing home every day to feed her.

May he rest in peace.

What a great loss. Spent a lot of time with Ed when he first became a LEO. He was always a gentleman.

Ed was one of those guys you could not forget. He was a gentle, even tempered cop who could bring calm to a situation by his mere presence. He had a way of talking to people, or "doing the necessary" when it was called for.
He always had my respect and will be in my prayers.
