I had Prof. Harcave for two classes while earning my M.A. in History at Binghamton during '81-'82. I found his teaching manner to be kind, gentle, informative, and interesting. I have fond memories of him.

A wonderful teacher! I also recall he told us we would be graded as much for good grammar and punctuation as knowledge of the subject and he used the following example to demonstrate that. He pointed out punctuation is important in the following sentence: "I saw her behind all of it." I've used that example for others ever since.

I was honored to be a student of Prof. Harcave at Harpur, in 1955. His book sits on my shelf as a treasured reminder of how much I enjoyed his teaching method and pleasant personality. The obit doesn't mention it, but he served his country in WWII and secured much valuable information by interviewing refugees from Russia after the war.
I'm sure he had a full life and I'm fortunate that he came into my life and enriched it so much.
