Lawrence Goodrich Obituary

Lawrence D. Goodrich, Jr.
formerly of Newark Valley
Larry Goodrich, Jr., 30, of Lexington, Ky., passed away suddenly on October 30, 2008 as a result of injuries sustained in an accident. Larry was the beautiful son of Rose (Creeley) and Lenny Terenzi, and Lawrence D. Sr. and Pamela Goodrich, and brother of Justin Terenzi and Lenny (Karen) Terenzi. He will also be greatly missed by his grandparents, Gertrude Creeley, Leonard and Alice Terenzi; many aunts, uncles, cousins, his special niece, Annabella Terenzi, and a host of friends. He was predeceased by his grandfather, Arnold Creeley; his aunt, Cathy (Creeley) Warner; and grandparents, Eleanor and Dr. Michael Markarian. Larry was born on Jan. 3, 1978 in Johnson City. He was a graduate of Newark Valley High School, Class of 96, where he participated in wrestling (Varsity starter all four years), was an excellent student and a great influence to his peers. Following high school he moved to Lexington in order to further his education at the University of Kentucky, but he always looked forward to coming home and being with his family and friends. He earned a Bachelor's Degree in Kinesiology, a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, a Master's Degree in Biomechanics and was employed as an engineer with Aerotek in Lexington. A beautiful person both inside and out, Larry had a true zest for living and was passionate about everything and anything he did in his life. His wonderful, mile-wide smile, great sense of humor and exuberant personality, all traits very natural to Larry, led to many close and endearing friendships. His presence will be greatly missed by all who knew him but he will live on in their hearts and memories forever. Larry will also live on in the lives of those people he saved through the organs he donated. That is just so Larry!
A celebration of Larry's life will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 8th at the MacPherson Funeral Home, 5 Whig St., Newark Valley. Rev. James T. Willard will officiate. A period of visitation and sharing of memories will precede the service from 12 noon until 3 p.m. Please hug your kids, family and friends or 'pay it forward' with a kind act or deed as a tribute to Larry and in his memory. For those who wish to do more, please consider a donation to the Newark Valley Wrestling Club, c/o Mr. Eric D'Arcy, 59 Whig St., Newark Valley, NY 13811 or the American Cancer Society in loving memory of Larry Goodrich.

This showed up in my email today. I wanted to say that I still think of Larry. Whenever I hear Journey's "Don't Stop Believing." I smile and think of Larry because he loved singing that song to us.

Rose, Family, & Friends -
I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of your beloved son. Words cannot express my sorrow. Rose, you & I share the pain of losing young loved ones, far too soon. It changes our lives forever... the JOY of having them so close to us, if only for 21 years, or 30 years. May you feel the prayers of many and find comfort in beautiful memories. I stood beside you once at work, I stand beside you now offering a hug and prayer.

Loved ones of Larry....
I guess it says a lot about who Larry was when you read all the entries made on his guestbook.... I always enjoyed the conversations I had with Larry.....he was always very cheerful and had a way about him to make you remember that life was good. I will never forget his contagious smile and the pride he had when he would talk about his family.

I was so saddened to hear what had happened to Larry. It's stunning that such a wonderful person could be taken away at such a young age, and so quickly. Dear Goodrich Family,

Words can not express how deeply sorry I am for your loss. I will never forget my high school memories with Larry. Especially the many laughs, rides in the bug and of course watching these crazy wrestlers jogging threw halls trying to make weight.

I will always keep Larry's memories held deeply within my heart reminding me how life should be lived.

Dear Lenny, Lorraine, Lenny Jr., Justin & family,
Our hearts and prayers go out to you all. We are so sorry for your loss, and the loss to the world of such a promising young life.

We don't always understand God's plan, but we can be sure He will reveal it when Christ returns.

"For the Lamb on the throne will be their Shepherd. He will lead them to springs of life-giving water. And God will wipe every tear from their eyes." Rev. 7:17

May the promises of our loving heavenly Father ease your pain and give you strength and peace in your hearts.

I began working at Lexmark in only May, and became friends with Larry the first day I arrived. We took to each other instantly and from there, repeated emails ensued. We spoke in quote dialogue because as we discovered, we’re both huge fans of Anchorman, The Legend of Ron Burgandy. We made whole conversations out that movie. And I think I impressed the guy because as it turned, I remembered the movie better than he did!

Most of our time together was spent either at Keeneland where we’d meet to walk our dogs or in each other’s cubicle at work. He loved to sneak up to my cube and pop his head over to spy on me. The last time I got to hear his voice was at the end of the work day, hours before his wreck, when he called my phone to sing the Hillshire Farm song. He seriously fantasized about recreating the commercial by standing up in his cubicle to shout, “Goooooo Meeeeeaaaat!” And of course, in this fantasy, his co-workers would chime in. We matched each other in our penchant for slapstick – every single moment in the presence of that guy chased away any blues or boredom. We were more than co-workers, we were definitely “co-people.”

His energy was boundless (and often overwhelming), his experiences were whimsically comical, his friendships were many, yet each endearing, his teddy bear eyes and smile were soul warming. This ineffable void I feel now as I sit next door to his cubicle feels like a burn in my chest. I can’t hear his voice, I can’t see his face except in the many memories shooting through my mind repeatedly. It was only in his last week that I started to realize finally how lucky I was that when I felt zany, Larry was always there to mirror me. It was always a cartoonish encounter with Larry and I hope our co-workers forgave us.

He was priceless. Larry, you weren’t lying when you quoted Ron Burgandy – you were in fact, “a pretty big deal.” The regrets will always be there for not seizing all the opportunities for some downtown debauchery and pull-ups, but you left us all with wonderful, wonderful memories.

My thoughts go to his parents and those closest to him. I can only imagine that the loss I feel in my own heart is magnified more than I can imagine in your hearts. I’m very sorry for you all to experience this pain.

In sympathy,

Nicole Partridge-Burton

We were blessed to know Larry. He brought laugther into our household and warmth to our hearts. Larry was playful, caring, and sensitive. My heart goes out to everyone who knew and loved him as much as we did. Lar-Lee made trips to the circus, oil changes, and quiet nights at home meaningful. I cannot thank his family enough for accepting me and supporting me, and if I can ever return the favor I will be ready and waiting.

Although I haven't seen Larry in years, I remember him fondly from high school. His wit, humor, and charm make him unforgettable! Please accept my deepest sympathies...a tragic shame to lose such a young, vivacious man. Please accept our deepest sympathies for your loss. Larry was and is one of our favorite people that we've encountered over our lifetimes. Whenever we reminisce about the old times in Newark Valley, the conversation inevitably leads to a hysterical Larry Goodrich story, whether it takes place at McDonald's, in the barn, in the VW, or during a free period in high school singing Piano Man. Larry will be forever a part of us and will continue to be one of our favorite people. May God bless you as He has blessed us to know Larry.

We are truly sorry for your loss,as NOTHING can replace a child.
I had the chance to meet Larry only once and he was a genuine person. He did ,indeed have a passion for life and everything he did. That is something you could tell first hand from having a conversation with him. The world will be an empty place, but just for a little while. Every now and again a person emerges that have the kind of qualities Larry seemed to have. Though its rare, you can rest assured Knowing that he will be missed, and we as friends share your sorrow.

Larry, You were the truest of friends. You would give the shirt off your back to anyone and countless times have helped so many people, whether installing fences, moving an entire household, or just lending an ear. I'm devastated and will always remember your infectious laugh, generosity, quick wit, and your crazy urge to do pull-ups. You had influenced so many people and were so positive...just look at the Facebook page and shows how loved you are.
