Joseph Vavro Obituary
of Binghamton
Joseph A. Vavro, 87, passed away peacefully Friday, October 31, 2008, at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital surrounded by his family. He was predeceased by his parents, Julia and Stanley Vavro, two sisters, Rita Jeglinski and Stella Nelson and two brothers, Frank and Stanley Vavro. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Evelyn (Berish) Vavro, Binghamton; one daughter, Cheryl Dempsey, Hillcrest; granddaughter and spouse, Sarah and Daniel McCue, Westville, N.J.; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Anne Tutics, Union, N.J., Rose Filipski, Somerville, N.J. and Julie and Michael Murnin, Vandling, Pa.; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Marion and Louis Turdo, Vestal; also many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was a member of Church of the Holy Trinity, a former St. Ann's volunteer for over 50 years and a member of the Holy Name Society. He was a retired employee of G.A.F. Corp. and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II having received two Bronze Stars. He will always be remembered for his kind and gentle ways but most especially for his love and devotion as a husband, father and grandfather. Special thanks to Dr. Steven Spivak, Dr. Mahmud Khan and the staff at Vestal Dialysis for their care and compassion.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, 10:00 a.m. at the Bednarsky Funeral Home, Inc., 96 Glenwood Ave., and 10:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered. Entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. Those wishing may contribute to Holy Trinity Church, 346 Prospect St., Binghamton, N.Y. 13905 in his memory.

We are so sadden to learn of the passing of Joe. He was a wonderful quiet but loving man. He never forgot us and always had kind words when we saw each other.
