Frederick Talbut Obituary

Frederick J. Talbut
(Freddie-Bird)
Frederick J. Talbut passed away on November 3rd, 2007 after a valiant battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family. Fred was born July 19th, 1934, the son of the late Wilmer and Rose Talbut. He was predeceased by his sister, Cecelia Martin; his mother and father-in-law, Earl and Anna Harmon, whom he was greatly fond of; and his sisters-in-law, Louise (Harmon) Armbrust and Carol Harmon. Fred's greatest joy and accomplishment in life was his family. He is survived by his adoring wife of 48 years, Joyce (Harmon) Talbut. He was the proud father, grandfather and father-in-law to his three sons and their wives and children, Michael and Bridget Talbut, Vestal, their sons, Joseph, Conor and Patrick (Fred's Bums), Vincent and Sheryl Talbut, Chenango Bridge, their son, Vincent (Little Man), and Joseph and Diane Talbut, Vestal, their daughters, Gracie and Jaclyn (Grandpa's Girls); and special family friend, Tiffany Clark. He is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Wilma and Steve Denmon, Endicott, and his sister and brother-in-law, Anne and Ed Bailey, Albany, N.Y.; the best partners in the annual "skins game", his brothers-in-law, Earl Harmon and Shirley Relyea, Vestal, Tom Harmon, and Jack and Joan Harmon, Arizona, and Robert Armbrust, Florida. He is also survived by several very special nieces and nephews. Fred attended Binghamton North High before enlisting in the U.S. Army, where he received an honorable discharge serving in the presidential Honor Guard, driving his "deuce and a half" for the 3rd Herd in Arlington, Va. Upon his return to Binghamton, he met and married his wife where they lived and raised their family. He worked for 41 years as a concrete finisher for "Local 42", retiring from Consolidated Masonry in 2004. Fred was considered "the best" at his trade and had a part in building much of the Triple Cities. It was not uncommon to be with Fred when he would mention how he put in that floor or built that bridge as we traveled the area. He was a member of the B.P.O.E. #70 and enjoyed playing in the weekly golf league. He enjoyed hunting with his "outlaws", especially their annual trip to the Adirondacks where many stories were generated. Fred's greatest pleasures were attending the sporting events of his grandsons, where they could do no wrong, and his special trips to Chuckie Cheese with Gracie. He was a strong advocate for the NY Yankees and NY Giants. A special thanks to Mitch and Lori Bomysoad for enabling our entire family the opportunity to attend a very special trip to Yankee Stadium. Fred enjoyed his annual trips to Vero Beach to be the guest of Anne and Ed, where he enjoyed his walks on the beach, basking in the sun, and a round or two of golf. A special thanks to my sons, daughters-in-law and grandchildren for their endless love and devotion, especially my daughter-in-law, Bridget for whom he could not have gotten through this without her love and support. We also want to thank our dear friends, Betty and John, Judy and Tom for their wonderful friendship throughout the years. The family would also like to extend a heartfelt thanks to Dr. Harris and his staff at Broome Oncology, along with Dr. Alan Miller and the staff at UMA-Endwell. The family would also like to thank Lourdes Hospice, especially his nurse, Cindy G. and aide, Cindy, for the care and compassion they provided for Fred. "No time on earth is long enough to share with those we love or prepare our hearts for that last goodbye." Sleep softly my dear Fred, now that you are out of pain.
A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Patrick's Church, corner of Oak and Leroy Streets, Binghamton, Wednesday at 10 a.m. Entombment will be at a later time in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton, Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in memory of Fred may be made to St. Patrick's Church Restoration Fund, 9 Leroy St., Binghamton, N.Y. 13905; or Lourdes Hospice Program, 4102 Old Vestal Rd., Vestal, N.Y. 13850.

Dear Joyce,

So sorry to hear Fred passed away.
Please accept my sincere apologies.
While reading how active he was, I remember the baseball games when my son, Matthew, and your son, Michael, played. I guess that had to be about thirty years ago.
Please extend my condolences to your family, and I shall remember Fred in our Wednesday night Rosary at Church.
Sincerely,
Carmie

Be Still

Be still like the grass on a melancholy summer day
Be still like desert shrub.

Be calm and you will hear your loved one speak, in the stillness, in the calm, their love resounds.

If you are still this promise I make, you will hear the voice of your loved one helping you along your way.

Hold on to what is good even if it is a handful of earth.
Hold on to what you believe even if it is a tree which stands by itself.
Hold on to what you must do even if it is a long way from here.
Hold on to life even when it is easier letting go.
Hold on to my hand even when I have gone away from you.

With Sympathy,

Nora Fallon
