James E. Mahar
formerly of Endicott
James E. Mahar, 96, formerly of Endicott, N.Y., died at Jupiter Medical Center Pavilion, Jupiter, Fla., on Saturday, November 10, 2007. He was predeceased by his wife of 41 years, Jane A. (Nabinger) Mahar; a second wife, Muriel Fowler; two sisters, Katherine Edwards and Ruth Crandall, both of Norwich, N.Y. He is survived by his son, Timothy J. Mahar and wife, Paula, Jupiter, Fla.; a daughter, Ellen K. and husband, Gary C. Pulver, Castalian Springs, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Richard T. Rhone and wife, Carrie, Eyota, Minn., Traci A. Davis and husband, Mark, Rochester, Minn., Shayne M. Pulver and wife, Dawn, Hendersonville, Tenn., and Shannon M. Stashak and husband, Daniel, Jupiter, Fla.; nine great-grandchildren, Jeremy, Dayna. Lindsey, John, Emily, Susan, Brandon, Tanner and Olivia; two great-great-grandchildren, Meggan and David; several nieces and nephews. Mr. Mahar served in the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII, was a retired employee of IBM Corp. after 32 years, a member of the IBM Quarter Century Club and IBM Color Guard; life member and Past Commander, of Endicott Post #82 American Legion, Last Man's Club, color guard, former post and bar manager. Mr. Mahar was instrumental in the development of Broome County American Legion Baseball with the Post 82 Endicott-Mahar team being named in his honor. He was also a member of the Endicott Elks Club #1977 and former member of the Endicott Lions Club. Mr. Mahar leaves behind many good and adoring friends.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, 10 a.m. from the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott, with the Reverend Father Edward Zandy, Pastor of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, Endicott, officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the Allen Memorial Home, Friday from 2-4 and evening 7-9 p.m. Expressions of sympathy in his memory may be made to the American Legion Post 82, Endicott-Mahar Baseball team.

Although I hadn't seen Uncle Jimmy since my mother's passing, I have many memories of him and Aunt Jane in my younger days. I was very sad to hear of his passing and wanted to send my condolences to both my cousins Timmy and Ellen and his many friends and family members.

I am so very sorry to hear about Jim's passing. I have thought of him often since the death of my Grandmother and hoped that he was doing well. I will always remember the fun times that we had together. He will be missed....
