Mark Dervay Obituary

Mark E. Dervay
of Binghamton
Mark E. Dervay, 47, passed away at home and went into the arms of the Lord on Friday afternoon, November 16, 2007. He was predeceased by his father, Michael Dervay in 1983. Mark is survived by his loving mother and angel, Anne G. Dervay; his supportive brothers, Michael and Daniel; his sister-in-law, Renée; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Mark blessed many with his friendship, but the special friendship and love given to him by Leo Haruk, Mary Anne Harder, Octavia Stanton, Dorothy Storton, Tony Williams, Dr. Modrak and her staff, Father Stephen Dutko and Father James Dutko, meant so much to his life. Mark was able through his medical problems to show tremendous strength possessed by few, faith unequaled, and by example he proved that one should never complain, but to live and love life. He cared and worried only of others and hoped that a cure for juvenile diabetes would soon be found. His lessons of living life will forever inspire each and every person lucky enough to have known him. He may have left us, but his example of courage, strength and faith will live on forever. The family would like to thank the many people who helped in his care, the staff of Southern Tier Medivan, those at the Dialysis Unit and Our Lady of Lourdes Hospice Unit.
A Divine Liturgy will be celebrated by the Very Rev. Protopresbyter James Dutko on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Michael's Greek Catholic Church, 292 Clinton Street, Binghamton. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Mark's memory to St. Michael's Greek Catholic Church or to the charity of one's choice.

I was deeply saddened to learn of Mark's passing. We were best friends in high school. Looking back, he had a deep love for all of you. He was so proud of his brothers. I remember him saying, Danny tried out for the Mets, or Mikey bowled another 700 last night. He was always about others and showed an unselfishness that I will never forget. God bless you all in this very sad time.

To Mrs. Dervay, Danny and Mike,

I have many fond memories of Mark when we were kids. From hanging out in the attic, to the photography, St. Mikes and to the rides he gave me to school. He was a gem. I am saddened and sorry for your loss.

Mrs. Dervay, Mike, Dan and Renee

I can understand your pain at this time. Mark was an inspiration to me and everyone who had the opportunity to meet him. I was fortunate to spend time with him over the past few months. I will surely miss my weekly call to discuss football and listen to Mark's analysis. All will work out and he is looking down upon us with a smile. I've never met an individual who could tolorate the things Mark had to go thourgh and many times I wondered how he did it. At peace now and forever.

God bless you all.

To the entire Dervay family. I am so sorry to hear of Mark's passing. Mark was always an inspiration to me as we grew up in the first ward playing sports together, especially hockey. Mark was a great goalie. But more importantly, a great friend. Despite Mark's life long health issues, he was always a gentleman and a very kind person. May Mark rest in peace.

TO THE ENTIRE DERVAY FAMILY:
I WAS SORRY TO HEAR OF MARK'S PASSING. WE GREW UP TOGETHER AND HAD MUTUAL FRIENDS ALL THROGHOUT SCHOOL. HIS WIT & INTELLIGENCE, HIS LOVE OF MUSIC AND HIS SMILE ALWAYS LIFTED ME UP. THE LAST TIME I SAW HIM WAS IN JANUARY 1994 AT THE BC AIRPORT, HE HAD JUST HAD AN ACCIDENT AND ROLLED HIS CAR, HE WAS ON HIS WAY TO BOSTON TO BE ASSESSED FOR HIS KIDNEY TRANSPLANT AND I SAID TO HIM I'M SURPRISED YOU ARE STILL GOING, THE WEATHER WAS SEVERE, WITH WIND CHILLS AROUND -40. HE WAS UPBEAT, ENTHUSIASTIC AND SO COURAGEOUS. THAT WILL BE HOW I REMEMBER MARK MOST. MAY YOUR MEMORIES OF A FIESTY, SPIRITED, SPIRITUAL, WELL ROUNDED MAN FOREVER REMAIN WITH YOU AND COMFORT YOU, FOR HE TRULY WAS AN INSPIRATION TO SO MANY, INCLUDING ME. MAY GOD BLESS YOU ALL AT THIS TIME.

To The Dervay Family,My deepest respect and sympathy, growing up and through friendship I beleived that I knew everything about Mark.During his illness and the many visits we shared together, Mark taught me much more and how to live. His faith, courage, strength, insight and humor inspired me to do better and make positive changes in my life. I learned that my recovery was just as important to Mark as it is to me.Mark always carried the message of hope and to never give up.He never complained even though the pain was great and always thought of others first. The last few years I believed that I was comforting him, when in reality he was comforting me.He will always be in my heart. He is not suffering anymore and his body is whole once again.
