Helen (Cusick) McGinnis, formerly of 5 Riverside Drive in Binghamton, died peacefully at her home at the Jeanne Jugan Residence in Somerville, Mass., on Thursday, November 15, 2007. She was 97. Born in Scranton on November 26, 1909, she was raised in Binghamton, attended the Binghamton public schools, and graduated from Trinity College in Washington, D.C., in 1933. She taught for 37 years in the Binghamton schools, most notably as an advance placement English teacher at Binghamton Central High School. She was predeceased by her husband, James J. McGinnis; and her beloved niece, Juliette Cusick Gallagher. She leaves behind many nieces and nephews, including James Cusick, Rumson, N.J., and Dr. Joseph Cusick, Milwaukee, Wis.
Funeral Services will be held at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton, Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. and at 1 p.m. at St. Patrick's Church, Binghamton. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the McCormack Funeral Home, Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Expressions of sympathy in Helen's memory may be made to the Little Sisters of the Poor, 186 Highland Ave., Somerville, Mass. 02143.
