Katherine T. Hubbs passed away peacefully to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 20, 2007. Katherine was born in a special place on Little Ireland Road in Starucca, Pa., on April 22, 1925 to the late James and Mary (Rogers) Gilleran. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, William E. Hubbs in 1996; three brothers, Tom Gilleran, John Gilleran, Paul (Dick) Gilleran; sister, Jane Stearns. Surviving are her son, Dennis Hubbs and his significant other, Suzanne Gromniak, Newark Valley; grandchildren, William D. Hubbs, Katherine M. Hubbs, Sarah J. Hubbs, Brenda A. Hubbs; four sisters, Claire Johnson, Va., Helen Gilleran, Florida, Rose Potter, Starucca, Pa., Delores (Babe) Carpenter, Susquehanna, Pa.; special cousins, Father John King, Starucca, Pa., and Genevive Leet, Thompson, Pa. Mrs. Hubbs was a graduate of Thompson High School, Class of 1944, and a retiree of IBM, Endicott, N.Y. (Birthplace of IBM). Katherine was a devoted lifelong Catholic and member of St. Paul's Church, Jackson, Pa., and St. John's Church, Newark Valley. She loved to cook and was an avid gardener and baker. The family sends grateful thanks for the care and support provided by Hospice at Lourdes.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, November 24, 2007, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church, 300 Main St., Owego, with the Rev. William Moorby officiating. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery, Newark Valley, N.Y. There will be no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made in Katherine T. Hubbs memory to Hospice at Lourdes, 4102 Old Vestal Road, Vestal, N.Y. 13850. Arrangements are by the Estey, Munroe & Fahey Funeral Home.
