Lucille Newcomb Obituary

Lucille M. Newcomb
formerly of Unadilla, N.Y.
Lucille Marsted Newcomb, 89, formerly of Unadilla, died Tuesday night, November 20, 2007, following a brief illness. She had been a resident of the United Methodist Homes, Elizabeth Church Campus in Binghamton since April of this year. Prior to that she had lived in the Charleston, S.C. area for over 25 years. She was born in Montclair, N.J. to Elizabeth and Nicolas Marsted. When Lucille was a young girl, the family moved to Cortland where she met the love of her life with whom she would spend a lifetime, David W. Newcomb, a native of Cortland who passed away in June 2001. Upon her graduation from Cortland State, the childhood sweethearts married and Lucille began a long and rewarding career as a 1st grade teacher at the Unadilla Elementary School. As a teacher, she touched many lives and even in retirement, she continued to touch young lives by volunteering to teach reading in the Charleston, S.C. schools. Lucille, or Lucy as many called her, was a woman of kindness and compassion, a dedicated wife, mother, daughter, teacher, friend...someone about whom we can say, "I'm so glad I knew her." She is survived by her children, David Newcomb, Linden, Calif. and Susan Newcomb, Binghamton, who will forever be so grateful for the wonderful life and love their parents, Lucille and David, gave them. She is also survived by her three grandchildren that loved and adored their Grandma. The family would like to thank everyone at the Elizabeth Church Nursing Home and Lourdes Hospice for the compassionate care, kindness, and comfort they gave Lucille so that she could pass quietly with grace and dignity.
Funeral services will be held in Mt. Pleasant, S.C. on November 28th where she will be laid to rest beside the love of her life, her beloved husband, David. Everyone that knew Lucille will remember her love of animals, especially dogs. Those who wish to remember Lucille may kindly consider a memorial donation to The Humane Society, 2 Jackson Street, Binghamton, N.Y. 13903. Local arrangements are by the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton, N.Y.

To the family and friends of Lucy's, we wish to express our deepest sympathy. She and her husband, David were two of the nicest people we've ever met. Former neighbors of ours we have never forgotten. We know she will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
