Rita Giblin Obituary
of Binghamton
Rita Walker Giblin, 82, of Binghamton, died Friday morning, November 23, 2007, at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital. She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Donald "Mickey" Giblin; her parents, Agnes and Charles Walker; her sisters, Agnes, Gertrude, and Ruthie; her brothers, Bernard, Robert, Vincent, Charles and Francis. She is survived by her children, Michael Giblin, Mary Agnes Giblin, both of Binghamton, Peggy and Sherman Bridges, San Jose, Calif., Donald and Amy Giblin, Kensington, Md., Joseph Giblin, Kensington, Md., Kevin and Karen Giblin, Bethesda, Md.; her grandchildren, Maggie and Chris George, Mark and Stina Laskoski, Brian and Lisa Laskoski, Joe Laskoski, Livia, Patrick, Molly, Liam, Colin, Dempsey, Cormac, Connor, Will and Lilly; her great-grandchildren, Ainsley, Kirsten, Caitlin, Andrew and Emma; her brother, Jerome and Ann Walker; sisters-in-law, Norma Reardon, Doris Giblin, Kate Walker; several nieces and nephews. She was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Binghamton, and the Altar-Rosary Society and Fatima Club. Rita retired from N.Y. Telephone Co.; member of C.W.A. and the Telephone Pioneers, and the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians Div. 2. Dear "Sweet Reet", for all your prayers and faithful devotions, may your journey to heaven be direct. Rest easy with Mickey and all your angels and saints. "Never Hurry, Never Worry, etc....."
Funeral services will be held at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton, Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. and at 9 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, where a Funeral Mass will be offered. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the McCormack Funeral Home, Monday from 4-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl., Memphis, Tenn. 38105.

Mary Ag,Peggy,Joe,Kevin and Donnie, So sorry for the loss of your mother. Aunt Rita was very dear to me from the time I was little boy. We watched many old movies on late night as she baby sat me. I CAME FROM ITHACA AND YOUR MOM AND MARY ANN STACK CAME FROM THE BINGHAMTON AREA. I REMEMBER YOUR MOM AS A VERY UPBEAT PERSON AND LOADS OF FUN, BUT SHE ALWAYS GREETED YOU WITH A WARM SMILE AND OPEN ARMS AND TOLD ME NOT TO WORRY SHE'LL SHOW ME AROUND AND THAT SHE DID. RITA, YOUR MOM, WOULD TALK ABOUT YOU KIDS CONSTANTLY AND SHE ALSO DID A LOT OF REMINISCENCING(HOPE I SPELLED IT RIGHT) ABOUT YOUR DAD, NOW SHE IS WITH HIM IN HEAVEN. To The Giblin Family,
My sincere condolences at the death of your Mom and Grandmother. Rita and Mickey were a great pair. I enjoyed getting to know them during my years in the S. Tier. They had a deep faith and were very supportive of the Church. Like Mickey, Rita will be missed, but left some wonderful memories. I am sorry that I am unable to be at ther services, but please know of my prayers.

Sorry to hear of the passing of Rita, my condolences to the family. She was one of the most amusing women I know. Her and Mickey were friends of my parents and we kids were so lucky to have grown up with many, many stories of the "olden days".

When I think of Orton Ave neighbors,the Giblins' are the first to come to mind. Mrs.Giblin always had time to chat with me on the glider on the front porch.

We are sorry to hear about the passing of my Great Aunt Rita. I will always remember her. She really made me feel good when I was around even though she didn't see me much. There were years between visits.

We are sorry to hear about the passing of Aunt Rita. Our memories of her will be cherished and will live on forever. Even though we can't make it back for the funeral, everyone will be in our thoughts and prayers. Here is a copy of a wonderful poem.
To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.

I am so sorry to read of Rita's death - I recently had a nice visit with your mom after Mass - Because i am visiting my daughter in Conn., I wwill be unable to be at her funeral or calling hours - I send my sympathy and prayers to each of you - I will always remember Rita for her thoughtfulness - Sincerely - Phyllis Canny
