Eva Cherro Obituary

Eva Cherro
of Binghamton
Eva Cherro, 88, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, November 30, 2007. She went to be with our Lord and her beloved husband, Angelo, who predeceased her in 1993. She is survived by her loving daughter and son-in-law, June and William O'Neil; her treasured grandchildren, Timothy and Sharon O'Neil, Todd and Michelle O'Neil, and Tracy and James Moran; her eight great-grandchildren who were the light of her life, Cameron and Nicholas O'Neil, Riley and Seth O'Neil, and Jimmy, Callie, Chelsie and Bobby Moran; a special sister, Sarah Brown; special niece and nephew, Jackie and John Kernan; many nieces, nephews and dear friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Bessie Shiffman; two brothers, Nathan Shiffman and Samuel Shiffman; two sisters, Rose Maney and Anna Shiffman. She was employed for many years at Men's Quality Shop in Johnson City and then went to Service Merchandise Company as a jewelry sales associate. She was a "classy lady" who was forever young at heart. She definitely "did it her way" and enjoyed life to the fullest. She enjoyed bowling, playing bingo, and attending musical concerts. Her fondest memories were of dancing with Angelo at the Pavilion to the big band sounds. They danced together for 53 years. Her family was her world and her love for them knew no limits. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. The family would like to thank the staff at Bridgewater Center for their loving care of Eva. She grew to love many of you.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 6 p.m. at the Wm. R. Chase & Son Funeral Home, 737 Chenango St., Port Dickinson, with The Rev. Ralph Osborne, Rector of Zion Episcopal Church in Greene, officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 3-6 p.m. Those wishing may make memorial contributions to Mom's House.

I am sorry for the loss of your mom. She was a very classy lady. I remember your mom and dad would come into the store to play lotto at One Stop. May they dance together in heaven again.

Dear Tim & Todd,We would like to express our condolences. We had planned to come to the viewing but Binghamton weather made that impossible. We remember your Grandmother from your weddings. Sounds like she has always been a "party person" and a very special grandma. You will be in our thoughts and prayers. Hope you and your families are all doing well.

Dear June and family,
Just yesterday I was speaking of your mother and what an incredible woman she was. I worked with Eva at Service Merchandise when I was a teenager and later hired her at Littman Jewelers when I was manager. I've loved and admired your mother (and Ang)for years. Her spirit, her wit, her sense of humor and her wardrobe is something that, I doubt, will ever be duplicated. She was inspiring! I moved to VA 7 years ago and asked my mom about Eve regularly. Although it saddens me to think of a world without Eve in it, I smile for the piece of her she left with me.
Love to all of you,
Diane Crawford (formerly Feichtel)

To Eva's family....I remember Eva when we bowled on Tuesday nights at State Bowling Alley. I bowled with my mother, Eleanor Juraska, and I met her through my mom. She was a very classy dresser and I always looked forward to when our teams bowled each other...Later when I'd see her shopping, she'd always ask about my mother and did remember who I was. She had a way of making you feel very comfortable around her. My condolences to her family.

I'm so very sorry for your loss. Eva was, indeed, a very classy lady. I grew up on the dead end block of Valley Street, where we were a tight-knit group. Eva and Angelo seemed to take pride in the adults we all became. They were very generous with their affection, and I know I benefitted from that affection.

May God bless you, and comfort you in your time of sorrow.
