Donna Doty Obituary

Donna Marie
(Sampson) Doty
of Willet
Donna Marie (Sampson) Doty, 60, of Willet, New York, joined her Lord on December 3rd, 2007 surrounded by her loving family and friends. Donna was born in Greene, New York, and was a graduate of Marathon High School and married her sweetheart, Dennis in 1966. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, crafts and the outdoors, was a member of the Willet United Methodist Church and volunteered her time at many charitable events. Donna dedicated her life to her family, friends, pets, garden and church. What made her truly happy was spending time with her friends, family and dogs at the river "Tara." Donna was predeceased by her husband, Dennis Arlan Doty of Willet, New York, in 2006; and her mother, Evelyn (Pierce) Wright in 1976. She is survived by one daughter, Lynnette (Clayton) Standish; a beloved granddaughter, Brianna Marie Standish; John (Michele) Ervin, whom she loved as a son; and her Godson, Collin Ervin; her father, Donald J. Sampson; a sister, Carolyn Sampson (William) Carroll; a brother, Raymond "Butch" (Linda) Wright; stepsiblings, John Sutliff, Lael Schmalzried, and JoAnn Sutliff; half-sisters, Mary Izzard and Sara Rose; uncles, nieces and nephews, and an amazing network of lifelong friends. Friends and family are deeply mourning the loss of our dear Donna. Her kindness and generosity brought a multitude of friends to her side throughout her 60 years in the Marathon/Willet area. Her deep faith in God, along with the thousands of prayers raised in her honor, brought comfort through her four month battle with leukemia.
Funeral services will be held Friday, December 7, 2007, at 11 a.m. from the Nichols Funeral Home, 7323 119th Street, Whitney Point, N.Y. Reverend Janet Lee will be officiating. The family will receive friends at the Nichols Funeral Home Thursday from 5-8 p.m. and Friday 10 until service time at 11 a.m. Donations in Donna's memory may be made to the Willet United Methodist Church, PO Box 74, Willet, NY 13863.

Remembering our earlier years as neighbors in Killawog so long ago, it's always so difficult to understand why such good people are taken from us so soon, however we all do find comfort in knowing that you were a very special part of such a well-lived life..

I first met Donna when I was 4 years old. We have stayed friends for well over 50 years. We didn't see each other as often as we would have liked, but we sure had a good time talking when we did get together.
I will miss her always.
