It was my privilege to care for Mr. Olsen for the past 9 months in our home. He always stood as a pillar of strength to me throughout my life. I thoroughly enjoyed learning of some details of his childhood as well as adult life. There was never a night that went by that he did not thank me for the care he received as well as his precious wife, Mary. He would often ring his bell and ask if I could please check on Mary. Usually it was perfect timing when she needed something or I needed to do something for her but she did not remember to call. His husband and loving instincts were still in motion right up to the last month. He never complained regardless of the circumstances but frequently expressed graditude and love. I shall miss "grandpa" as the days come and go.

Proverbs 22:1 A good name is more desirable than great riches; to be esteemed is better than silver or gold. When we think of the 50 + years of knowing Francis Olsen both in the church and business world, we are reminded of this scripture. We have always appreciated his dedication to the church and individuals of the church.

Though we only knew Mr. Olsen from a distance, Jane and I were blessed by his life in many ways, not least due to his support of our college, Hobe Sound Bible College. We are also blessed that one of his granddaughters, Marry Ellen, married into our family. We've been blessed by the lives of each of Mr. Olsen's children and we've enjoyed the friendship of so many of his relatives. We thank God for a life so well lived and we are grateful for his influence for God.

The word gentlemen sums up Mr. Olsen. He reached cross social & economical lines to be a living epistle. I will always have a love in my heart for Francis and Mary

It was my priviledge to have served on the same church board in Binghamton, NY with Francis Olsen.
A finer example of a true Christian gentleman was never in question. The life he lived reflected the love of Christ seven
days a week. Though he will be greatly missed by all who knew him,
we share the blessed hope of a glorious reunion. Let's purpose to be there!

I have fond memories of our Thanksgivings on Posson Hill when the Olsens and the rest of the clan gathered to celebrate. Uncle Francis was always there with his family. Remember the exciting football games, the wonderful food and fun!
Great family ties!

I was not priviledged to know Mr. Olsen personally, but have always admired him for his financial investment into Gods Kingdom. I attended Hobe Sound Bible College and was a recipient of his many gifts to the school.

Tribute to J. Francis Olsen
Funeral 5/29/07
by: Rowan Fay

Today we celebrate the life of J. Francis Olsen. This distinguished gentleman has been a spiritual father to many people.

He is ‘Father’ to some, ‘grandfather’ to others, ‘great grandfather’ to others, uncle to some, ‘friend’ to many, and husband to one. This giant of a man has been a ‘champion’ and hero to those who knew him best. This godly man has guided his family with great wisdom and influenced them to be seekers after God.

He taught by example to have a good work ethic and demonstrated a spirit of giving and service that has blessed the work of God around the world. He gave over 50 years of service to his local church in Binghamton, NY; serving in almost every conceivable position in that local church.

He also served for twenty six years as treasurer of the Pilgrim Holiness Church of New York, Inc.

What makes a nation great is great churches.... What makes churches great is great men and woman. If every church had a Francis Olsen in it, every church would be great.

There are people in heaven today as a direct or indirect result of the life this man lived. One of those is Ray Orange who was president of the Ebenex Corporation. It wouldn’t surprise me if Ray Orange met him as he came through the pearly gates! His influence on Ray was typical of his influence on many business leaders.

When I would introduce myself to business people in Binghamton as the pastor of the Pilgrim Holiness Church...they would invariably respond by saying, “Oh! You’re the pastor of Francis Olsen’s church.” It was an honor to be known as the pastor of “Francis Olsen’s Church”. The respect this man had across the city is legendary.

My last visit with him will always be very special in my memory. Before I prayed with him I said, “Uncle Francis, I love you.” And he responded...with... “And I love you too.”

Thank you, Francis Olsen, for your godly life of sacrifice and service. Thank you for showing us what it means to be a Christian gentleman.

Today we honor you in your promotion. We celebrate your graduation to the land of endless day. We rejoice with you for your arrival in the land you lived to see and the home that is your forever.

May God enable us to remain faithful to Jesus Christ and join you in that wonderful city that needs no sun.

We love you, and thank you for your investment in our lives.

Your Nephew,

verna stoddard

Tom and Vera Kelly, also enjoyed your family as we were all growing up. Sincerely, Thomas R. Kelly

To me Brother Olsen was the definition of a saint. His life reflected the fruits of the spirit and he was just a pleasure to be around. I don't know that I ever saw him without that quiet smile on his face. I remember being in his home more than 30 years ago and seeing the picture of two little grandsons. My daughter Jennifer, maarried one of those little boys, John. I know that Gramp Olsen's life has been a benediction to their family and for that I am grateful Dear Olsen family I rejoice in Bro. Olsen's homegoing and I share in the loss of this dear man.

Thank God for the HOPE of Heaven! I have always had great respect for Bro. Olsen. He served our Conference well. (Pilgrim Holiness Church) My dad (Rev. Francis Richmond) always had good words for him. Where has the time gone? It seems like yesterday we were all on the Binghamton Camp ground. I think often of the chorus, "WON'T WE HAVE A TIME WHEN WE GET OVER YONDER" I for one.....can't wait.

Our heartfelt sympathy and prayers go out to the Olsen family. He died as he lived, simply and quietly. It isn't everyone who has had such a father, who held the high esteem of everyone who ever met Mr. Olsen. He will be remembered for his steadfast service to his host of friends, church and the community.
