Joseph McCarthy Obituary

McCARTHY JOSEPH L., SR., 70, of Forest Avenue, Cranston passed away peacefully Sunday at the Miriam Hospital after a four year battle with cancer.

Born in Providence he was the son of the late Charles and Marion McCarthy. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years Virginia J. (Chestnut) McCarthy.

Besides his wife he leaves one son Joseph McCarthy and his fiance Tamara Cresta of York, ME, and two daughters Mary Ellen Kupcinskas and her husband Mark of Douglas, MA, and Bridgett Duquette and her husband Paul of Cranston. He was the loving and devoted grandfather of Rachel, Amanda and Daniel McCarthy. Laurie and Rachel Phillips, Mark and Kayla Kupcinskas, and Marissa, Sarah and Paul Duquette, Jr. He is also is survived by a brother Thomas McCarthy, and four sisters Marion Pereira, Margaret Addison, Kathleen Conroy, and Carol Migliaccio. He was predeceased by his brothers Charles, Francis, and Michael McCarthy and sister Geraldine Dolan.

He was a twenty year employee of Brown University until retiring in 2006 due to his progressing illness.

The funeral will be held on Thursday at 8:45 a.m. from The Butterfield Chapel, 500 Pontiac Avenue, Cranston followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Paul's Church, Cranston at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be in The Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery Exeter.
