Thomas DeAngelis Obituary

DeANGELIS, THOMAS V. 'ANGEL', 50, of North Providence, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday. He was the son of Rose (Capobianco) and the late Thomas 'Lindberg' DeAngelis.

Thomas, a self employed Car Dealer, had been employed by Mutual Isuzu of Smithfield, Gino Corvette of North Providence, and R & R Auto Sales of Johnston. For many years, Thomas, known as 'Tommy Isuzu' was an on-air personality, hosting talk shows on both WALE and WICE. He enjoyed making wine, cooking, and singing but was happiest when surrounded by his family.

Besides his mother, he is survived by his brothers, Steven DeAngelis and his wife Elizabeth, Richard DeAngelis and his wife Amalia; and his nieces and nephews, Lauren, Rocco, Marina, Anastasia and Dante.

His funeral will be held on Friday at 8:45 AM from the A. A. MARIANI & SON Funeral Home, 200 Hawkins St., Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in St. Thomas Church, 65 Fruit Hill Ave., Prov. Visiting hours Thursday 4-8 PM. Burial will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.

To the DeAngelis Family and Friends:
Tom was, indeed, precious. He invested in caring for people. He wasn't a timid, fearful soul that lacked color or life. He told you what he thought. He had a great passion for helping the weak, oppressed or simply those in need. He was generous and expressive. I have a plant at my house that Tom planted in the yard because he thought I needed it. It is a plant that everyone stops to admire. It is unlike any other plant I have ever seen. The pink flowers are larger than my outstretched hand. Tom helped me in so many ways and he could detect in all things the presence or absence of virtue. He could pick out the best and could tell you why it was the best. He understood the idea of service and the strength to bend to serve.
I hope to capture and help teach the virtues Tom understood through the Thomas V. DeAngelis Nursing Scholarship. This scholarship will help a junior or senior nursing student pay for school by attending to the special needs of patients with kidney or heart disease. The nursing student will not just hand the patient a piece of paper to help improve his/her quality of life, but bend down and serve the patient. I would like to see the student cook a meal for a frail person and teach them how to make the food taste good with healthy additives and add love to health care- more love-more virtue-more care-do it Tommy D. style. I have discussed the idea with the Director of the School of Nursing (St Joseph Hospital) at Fatima and she said they could accomodate ideas and referred me to the development office which I am working with. I have donated $100 to open it up.
Thank you so very much for all you taught me. A piece of your personality will remain in my heart and if I see someone oppressed or in need I hope to be like you.

Having the pleasure of growing up across the street from the DeAngelis family gave me a unique love for Tommy and his family. From a very young age Tommy always had the passion in his eyes when he described an event. You had not lived until you experienced a restaurant review from Tommy. He would remember the smallest of details about the food and service of his latest culinary adventure.
The days down Johnnie's Tavern would have never been the same without the "Tommy Angel Show". Eddie would fill the tavern to capacity (often monthly) to see a once in lifetime performance of Tommy Angel doing Sinatra favorites, Tommy made us all laugh so often. I can remember when I had the occasion to accompany him to the Mohegan's, at the Baccarat table and when he won a hand he
would bark. (he had the best bark) If you were out somewhere and heard a bark, you knew Tommy was nearby. I cried when I heard the news, for we will laugh a lot less without Tommy around. The laughs, the respect that he so often expressed to my family, truly makes Tommy one of the irreplaceable ones in North Prov. May his giant spirit live in all our hearts forever.
With my sincerest heartfelt sympathy for Rose and her family at this unfortunate time.

Respectfully, Ronnie Bruno
