Owen Kavanagh Obituary

KAVANAGH, OWEN M. 'MIKE', 68, of Fruit Hill Ave., died Friday at The Bridge at Cherry Hill, Johnston. He was the former husband of the late Patricia A. (Karowski) Kavanagh.

Born in Providence, a son of the late Bernard J. and Veronica (Connelly) Kavanagh, he lived in Providence most of his life before moving to North Providence fifteen years ago.

Mike was a policeman with the Providence Police Department for twenty-eight years, retiring with the rank of Sergeant, in 1991. He was a member of the Providence Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge # 3, the Retired Providence Police & Firefighters Association, Sons of Irish Kings and the Smithfield Elks Lodge, #2359. He served his country in the United States Army.

He leaves a son, Bernard J. 'Barney' Kavanagh of East Providence; a daughter, Kathleen M. Cavaco of Seekonk, Massachusetts, and five grandchildren. He was a brother of the late Kevin Kavanagh, Claire Kavanagh, Anne Bergmann, and Jane F. Guilmette.

The funeral will be held Tuesday, at 8:45 am, from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence. Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in Our Lady of Loreto Church, 346 Waterman Avenue, East Providence. Burial will be in Saint Francis Cemetery, Pawtucket. Visiting hours Monday, 5 - 8 pm.
