Catherine Hayes Obituary

HAYES, CATHERINE J. (HATTON), R.N., 93, of St. Elizabeth Way, died Saturday at Kent Hospital, Warwick.

Born in Boston, MA, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Margaret (Duwan) Hatton. She had lived in Warwick for over 20 years before moving to East Greenwich. A Registered Nurse, she served in the Army Nurse Corps during World War II and was stationed in Jerusalem and India. She met her late husband, Francis E. Hayes, on board a troop transport ship. They were married in Jerusalem during the war. She was a member of the East Greenwich Leisure Learning for over 25 years and was an avid reader.

She was the loving mother of Kevin M. Hayes and his wife Kathleen of Narragansett. Cherished grandmother of Jennifer Barry and her husband Patrick, Kerry Hayes, and Michael Hayes and his wife Carolyn and great grandmother of Liam, Keira, and Owen. She was the sister of the late Sr. Mary Magdalene, O.P., and Mary Dobie. Caring aunt of several nieces and nephews.

Her funeral will be held Wednesday at 8:00 a.m. from THE URQUHART-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, 800 Greenwich Avenue, Route 5, Greenwood, Warwick (Exit 12A on I-95) with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Mercy Church, Fourth Avenue, East Greenwich. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Yonkers, NY. Relatives and friends are invited and may call Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory to The East Greenwich Free Library, 82 Pierce Street, East Greenwich, RI, 02818 would be appreciated. www.murphyfuneralhomes.org
