Jane Brosnihan Obituary

BROSNIHAN, JANE D., 71, of Benedict St., Riverside, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 6, 2008 at Women and Infants Hospital due to complications of ovarian cancer. Her adoring husband of 51 years, Tom, and a large gathering of loving family members were at her side.

Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late August S. and Lydia (Rebello) Dias. She was a lifelong resident of East Providence.

Jane had recently retired after 17 years as head cook at the George J. West Elementary School. She lived a lifetime of service and care for others and was active in community organizations including the PTA, in which she was a past president, and the Forever Young Club. She was a devout parishioner of St. Brendan's Church in Riverside.

Her greatest interest and source of satisfaction was in helping those in need. She lived for the chance to share as much of her immense heart, strength, friendship, and humor with family and friends. She was an avid fan of the New England Patriots and of the Boston Red Sox.

Besides her husband, she is survived by her sons, Steve of Bristol and Ron of Brunswick, NY; her daughters-in-law, Susan Brosnihan and Despina Brosnihan; her cherished grandsons, Nicholas, Alexander and Thomas of Brunswick, NY; and her sisters, Christine Duquette of East Providence, Lorraine Care of Salado, TX, and her identical twin, June Mace of Seekonk. She was also the sister of Thomas Rainey of Providence and the mother-in-law of the late Diana Golden Brosnihan.

Her funeral will be Monday at 8:30am from the REBELLO FUNERAL HOME, 901 Broadway, East Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am at St. Brendan's Church, Turner Ave., Riverside. Burial will follow at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Calling hours will be Sunday 4-8pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jane's memory to the Golden Opportunities Fund, c/o PO Box 111, Bristol, RI 02809 or to The Program in Women's Oncology, Women and Infants Hospital, 101 Dudley St., Providence, RI 02905. www.rebellofuneralhome.com
