Born to James and Mary Ellen (Egan) McGrath in 1918, she had two sisters May and Gertrude. Originally from St. Edwards Parish in Pawtucket the family moved to Darlington when she was a girl. They became one of the original communicant families of St. Leo Parish, now St. Leo the Great, in Pawtucket. She graduated from Pawtucket High School (Tolman) in 1936. Upon graduation she worked as a telephone operator for American Telephone & Telegraph (AT&T) Company. She married the late John J. Winters Sr. in 1941. During World War II, while her husband served in the Pacific, she worked at the Peerless Company, in Pawtucket, as a cosmetic specialist for Estee Lauder, Frances Denny, and Elizabeth Arden.

Upon her husbands return from the war she became a career homemaker. She was active in the Girl Scouts of Rhode Island serving as assistant leader to both Brownie and Junior Girl Scout troops. She is survived by her three children; John, Kathleen, and Dorothy, their spouses, and four grandchildren. She leaves several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was a life long communicant of St. Leo the Great in Pawtucket and a regular member of the Golden Ages Club until recent years.

She will be forever remembered for her faith in God, her love and dedication to her family, and mostly her attitude of gratitude and thanksgiving.
