Ellen Durfee Obituary
DURFEE, ELLEN (EBEL), 88, of Somerset passed away on Tuesday, August 12, 2008, at her home. She was the wife of the late Lloyd Durfee and a beloved mother of seven.
Ellen was born in Richmond, VA, on February 22, 1920, the daughter of the late Henry and Vera (Blunt) Ebel. Ellen graduated from Farmville State Teachers College in Virginia, with a bachelor of science degree in education. Mrs. Durfee devoted her life to raising her family. She worked for the Somerset School Department for several years, and was a very active member of the Congregational Christian Church in Somerset. Mrs. Durfee also was a member of the Old Colony Association. Among her many volunteer activities for her community, Ellen volunteered her time throughout the years at Charlton Memorial Hospital, with the American Red Cross at the annual blood drive in Somerset, and to the town of Somerset by helping out with voting and elections. She met every Thursday with a group of lady friends known as the 'Jolly Girls'. Mrs. Durfee enjoyed making quilts, was a lover of nature, and was an avid sailor together with her husband. Survivors are five daughters-Dale E. Durfee of England; Susan C. Bettencourt of Westport, MA; Heidi A. Pacheco of Swansea, MA; Janet L. Durfee-Hidalgo of Barrington, RI; and Nancy L. Durfee of Somerset, MA-two sons-David L. Durfee of Fairhaven, MA, and James H. Durfee of Buckfield, ME-ten grandchildren-Carey, David, Alex, Sage, Jacob, Sara, Elie, Cody, Rachel, and Kyle-three great grandchildren-Jack, Sage, and Tyler-many nieces and nephews, and her sister-in-law Virginia Hood and her husband Roger of Somerset, MA. She was the sister of the late Virginia Wood, Vera Elmore, and Ferdinand C. Ebel, and grandmother of the late Raymond and Scooter Max Pacheco. CALLING HOURS with VIDEO PHOTO ALBUM will be FRIDAY from 4-7pm in the HATHAWAY COMMUNITY HOME for FUNERALS, 900 Buffinton St., SOMERSET. Her Funeral Service will be held on Saturday at 10 am in the Congregational Christian Church of Somerset, 1411 County St., Somerset. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
