Sigrid E. Walsh

WALSH, SIGRID E. (PUHAKKA), 95, of 1 St. Elizabeth Way, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Home, East Greenwich. She was the wife of the late John M. Walsh.

Born in Fitchburg, MA., a daughter of the late Oskari and Helmi (Putkonen) Puhakka, she had lived in East Greenwich since 1966.

Sigrid was a communicant of Our Lady of Mercy Church since 1966. She was a member of Potowomut Country Club for forty-two years and was recently made an Honorary Member. She enjoyed golf, duplicate bridge, gardening, and collecting fine antiques. She created many beautiful needlepoint and embroidery pieces and was an accomplished seamstress and milliner.

She is survived by her three children, Susan Walsh Boyle and her husband Donald of East Greenwich, Dr. Michael F. Walsh and his wife Carol (Boyle) of Charlotte, NC and John Dee Walsh and his wife Mary Ann of New Canaan, Ct.; nine grandchildren, Sigrid Boyle Pearson, Christine Boyle Ritch, Bridget Boyle Fitzgibbon and Olivia S. Boyle, Michael D. Walsh, David A. Walsh, Kathleen S. Walsh, Deidre Walsh Herde and John M. Walsh.; fifteen great grandchildren, AnnaRose Pearson, Luke Pearson, Matthew Pearson, Jack Pearson, Isabel Ritch, Evelyn Ritch, Patrick Fitzgibbon, Collin Walsh, Aidan Walsh, Charlotte Walsh, Connor Walsh, Taylor Walsh, Kylie Walsh, Charles Herde and Sarah Herde. She was the sister of the late Gertrude Braman, Helvi Greene, Tauno Puhakka, and Otso Puhakka.

Her funeral will be held on Thursday at 8:45 a.m. from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 142 Centerville Rd., Warwick. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Mercy Church, Fourth Street, East Greenwich. Visiting hours, Wednesday 4-7 p.m. Burial will be St. Patrick Cemetery, East Greenwich.
